Nathan J (us) wrote: If you are interested in the "critics," you don't really understand Andrew and his idea of new media. You should watch this to gain some insight. A powerful piece on the willful manipulation by the mainstream media of the American public.

YK G (nl) wrote: I wanna like the man, but I got a total of one laugh-out-loud from this one.

Nathanael D (kr) wrote: I don't think this one is so easy as to fit it into a category of goods or bads. It broke so many of what one would call "rules of storytelling," that it initially left me confused and critical about it's technical nature. But the more I think of it, I really don't know what to make of it and am wonderfully puzzled by it. I don't think there's another movie quite like it.

Sam B (ag) wrote: This would have been a better movie had plastic Priestley and some of the American gloss been left out. Forest Whitaker covers his corner as adequately as he could in this role, but Jeremy Irons pulls off an impressive lead performance in this nail-biting story.

Rachel B (it) wrote: This series is so brilliant!

Becs D (fr) wrote: Somewhere in the future which is now the past, a unique product can be sourced, it works in theories and the characters are likeable, but film drags for something that is not that complicated.

Shaun B (fr) wrote: The pace and ideas behind the film should be lauded but the execution seems slightly off to the point where your mind may wander along the lines of "Kitano is dragging this one scene out too much, while he should have left the camera to linger longer on this point instead." It's not a violent film compared to most and it relies more on French New Wave aesthetics which both help and hinder everything including the ending.

Bill E (ru) wrote: Saw this on TV long ago and enjoyed it. Sidney Poitier was great. Too bad River Phoenix couldn't continue his career.

Daisy M (de) wrote: edited version? i think not!

Allan C (ru) wrote: Dean Devlin and Roland Emmerich followed up their huge success with "Independence Day" with this weak American remake/reboot of Godzilla. The film starts out promising, with scientist Matthew Broderick being scooped up by the government to help them investigate the effects of radiation on what is likely a new monstrous creature. The cast is solid, with Jean Reno, Maria Pitillo, Hank Azaria, Kevin Dunn, Michael Lerner, Harry Shearer, Vicki Lewis, Nancy Cartwright, Richard Gant, and my favorite 80s/90s stuntman Al Leong and you even have Gretchen Mol in an uncredited role as a reporter. However, the film is a real slog at nearly two and a half hours. When this film came out, it was a direct attempt to show up "Jurassic Park" with an even bigger dinosaur creature and took the same serious tone. I think where Devlin and Emmerich went wrong is that they forgot the playful tone they brought to the action and adventure they had in their previous films like "Stargate" and "Independence Day." Emmerich is a solid action director, but he's no Spielberg. Maybe if this film was edited down to a tight 90 minutes, it may have worked better.
