Michael H (au) wrote: With its follow-the-money mind-set, the documentary works its way through problem and solution many times over, always in a brisk, no-nonsense way. By bringing in a diverse group of big thinkers to take part in a very animated, sometimes agitated, discussion, the filmmaker has succeeded in bringing what could have been a very dry mountain of data, theories and experimental research to vibrant life.

Matthew S (ag) wrote: Claude Chabrol's deeply cynical film is loosely based on truth. Isabelle Huppert is perfectly cast a judge hellbent on attacking corruption at all costs --- which is justly represented by a corrupt CEO. As she pursues justice the levels of corruption go far deeper than she anticipates. Chabrol's odd and abrupt conclusion is truly jolting --- and a bleak view of the world's future. Almost a decade since it was first released, this film has become even more effective and clever.

Charles P (it) wrote: The film is a fascinating enigma of the mind and the human heart that leaves one both euphoric and reflective, whether you choose to see its narrative as fractured or beautifully original.

Tara H (fr) wrote: Not much of a story, but still well worth seeing thanks to Mitchum and Russell. Gloria Grahame is also wonderful in a too-small role. 'Macao' was initially directed by Josef von Sternberg, and has some of his old exoticism. But he clashed with both the studio and stars, and so Nicholas Ray was brought in at the last minute to re-shoot scenes.

Alexandria R (kr) wrote: This is one of my all-time favorite movies. I think the casting was well done; actors like Will Forte and Will Arnett gave the movie a hilarious comedic element. On the other hand, there were several sequences in the film that were both heart-wrenching in content and just cinematographically well executed. I simply don't understand the reviews. I would recommend this film to anyone - particularly those who have ever been in a relationship. The only criticism I have of the film is that there seem to be a lack of direction in the plot (though this didn't bother me at all) and at times you could tell the film was obviously targeted at a female audience. Still spectacular! 4.5/5 stars
