Jeremy K (fr) wrote: Different from my expectations. Honest, unapologetic, more serious than the trailer made it out to be. Kind of sad this style of living is considered abnormal. Made some valid points about our society in general from today's viewpoint.

Marina N (fr) wrote: Quite disappinting, even with low expectations. Both Kareena and Shahid can't smile away the poor story. The second part is pretty much "serendipity" set in Delhi. Until Priya finds out about the prank, the movie is almost entertaining. But the sudden change in Shahid, caused by Kareena's love confession, is totally unbelievable - even for Hindi film. After that is just goes downhill.

Andy K (fr) wrote: Even though I love period pieces like this, I can't give this film any more than a couple of stars. It was pretty bad. The film tried so hard to have a gritty and dark atmosphere, but it just didn't. Mainly because of the directing and camerawork which seemed very lazy to me. There was no creativity in the directing which is exactly what this film needed to be able to capture the atmosphere that it wanted so desperately. Also, Nick Nolte's character, Max Hoover, came off way too strong and unbelievable. I know he's supposed to be this badass LA homicide detective, but there's a few parts in the movie where he just does the stupidest shit, and at that point I just stopped caring about his character and the movie as a whole. The first act of the film was actually very good, especially the opening scene, but it all went downhill from there. The climax was laughably bad when it decided to be an action movie for 5-10 minutes, and the last words of the actual murderer were so horribly delivered and it honestly made me laugh pretty hard. Which is sad because he was trying so hard to be dramatic. I suppose I should say some good things about this film, because there are some. The witty dialog between the detectives was great, the first act, and Nick Nolte's suits. Eh, I guess that's it.
