The gradual peeling away of the main character's persona and subsequent self-realization was absolutely horrifying. This film truly invokes a visceral reaction of disgust, horror, and shock, which is necessary given the topic at hand. Brilliantly executed, one of the most powerful documentaries of all time.

Incoherence notwithstanding, it's worth watching for the myriad of twists - the less forecast ones anyway - and the odd moment of dark humour that hits the mark.
(au) wrote: For starters, don't watch Header unless you are one of my twisted film fans. Header is pure exploitation fare filled with sexual depravity, brutal violence, and a truly twisted sense of humor. Header concerns a West Virginia ATF agent whose sick girlfriend requires expensive medications to help offset her condition. To pay for her medications, the agent begins to compromise his morals and begins to slowly descend into a dark world of criminality. Simultaneously, a convict gets released from prison and reunites with his backwoods grandfather who has a strong desire for a perverse form of revenge known as a header. I won't give away what it is, although the film does early on. But I will say that it is truly depraved. Header aims for style in various parts, which it never quite achieves, but it is twisted exploitation fare at its finest: a blend of human drama with backwoods horror and completely black sense of humor coalescence into a thoroughly entertaining and brutal piece of trash.

(it) wrote: It might be second-tier in the Linklater canon, but it's still genuinely funny and crass like the original. Billy Bob Thornton is the real reason to see this, where he brings a kind of "Bad Santa" crudeness to the performance.

(br) wrote: Nicely filmed with definite and accurate ethnic side with its concomitant issues. Unbelievable to see Keira Knightley as "Jules"
(us) wrote: ** (out of four) Pretty unmemorable road movie that tries so hard to be cool and witty, but it cannot overcome its average script. Jared Leto plays a young playboy who sleeps with a woman who has shady connections. Soon those thugs connections are after him so he and his buddy (Jake Gyllenhaal) hit the road and head towards Seattle. They have many adventures along the way.

(jp) wrote: See, the description above works just fine for this, especially for a David Chiang movie. The one on the Dragon Dynasty case might be a bit more eye catching but describes spoilers from late in the film. So I found myself expecting certain major events to happen, with no real knowledge of how the film would even start. But anyway... loved it, haha, of course! Liu Chia-Liang never disappoints, and his leading man is by far my favorite of the era this time.
