Jennie R (fr) wrote: I really liked the storyline to this film. There are many horror clichs and the stylings of "Ringu" & "Ju-on" are throughout. It seems to be the mainstay to use the haunting long black hair in Asian Horror film. This also has echoes of "Shutter" to it as well but I really liked this film. The only part that I didn't care for was the very end. It was cheesy and really didn't seem to belong.

Made all the more interesting when my own relatives made that same trip once, not that long ago! There were a few weird bits in the middle that I felt took a little away from this well shot movie.
Wayne K (jp) wrote: Endlessly witty and slyly subversive, Thank You For Smoking sees Jason Reitman at his finest, constructing a film that will make you absolutely love a man who is, for all intents and purposes, a wise-ass, egotistical jerk. Aaron Eckhart is perfectly cast, taking every opportunity to show off his smug grin and astute arguing abilities, but he lends the role all the gravitas it requires when necessary, without ever over-sentimentalising. He's supported by many fine performances, and Reitman avoids the obvious trap of making them caricatures. The film makes many great points, especially regarding freedom of choice and the callous publicity-seeking nature of bigwigs, but does it with such humour that you don't ever feel like it's preaching. It takes many swipes at large corporations, like plenty of movies do, but is also willing to point out that, however harmful the product a company may be selling, they're just trying to make a living too. The closing scene, which manage to throw in a line that makes cheese seem profound, is utterly brilliant, the very definition of a perfect ending. If you like your films clever, thought-provoking or just plain funny, then Thank You For Smoking is for you.

Wes S (nl) wrote: Can't say I was expecting astro-zombies. While the mood is nice and the films holds a serious tone throughout, the plot feels familiar, and eventually it ends up being a chase flick that gets dull. The premise is there, and everything works nicely, and yet the movie doesn't go as far out enough to define itself.
