(kr) wrote: Some shots really stuck with me, and I appreciate the fact that they didn't overdo it with narration or talking heads. We are simply there, watching what is happening and experiencing it as these people do. Slightly boring at times, but also unexpectedly funny at times.
(kr) wrote: A robot fighting movie has to be awesome, right? Wrong. At least in the hands of Michael Bay, who cares more about crass attempts at comedy and flashy explosions rather than having a coherent story, likable characters, or action scenes you can actually follow.
(gb) wrote: This movie was so bad, it was almost like the makers were trying to go for the "so bad, it's good" type of movie and they failed at that. The acting is horrendous. The plot is nonsensical. The special effects were cheesy. I can't believe I sat through the whole thing.

(ag) wrote: When the setting was told to be an gothic, late-1800 era ghost story, I was super intrigued. Directed by Guillermo del Toro, who can make excellent movies (Pan's Labyrinth etc.) and starring Mia Wasikowska, Jessica Chastain, Tom Hiddleston and Charlie Hunnam, the pack was set for a good film. Sadly though, the story loses it gravitas when passing the half-way mark and what is left is a very simple core story, which made coming scenes very predictable and the movie ends with a whimper. The setting was awesome though, as were the (sadly scarcely used) CGI-ghosts. I expected it to be better than this.
