Adam M (nl) wrote: Mia Sara plays the most adorable screen queen you've ever seen and for a while puts the lines through some real emotions and rhythms. It's got style for a television movie, and Stuart Gordon chooses the right make-up effects to make the TV audience the most uncomfortable. Anthony Perkins doesn't embarrass himself. The script can get embarrassing though, especially to Jack Coleman.

Mark B (br) wrote: This is one of those interesting movies where at first you are not sure if it's good or bad. It was yet another attempt in the 60's to bring a comic book to life. And at first, my reaction was: "you can't be serious"! This felt like an Austin Powers movie without the comedy. But as the movie progressed I started to appreciate it more. Instead of being a superhero, Diabolik is a supercriminal. I guess there had to be a place in the comic book universe for them as well. But instead of the typical hero-esque main character with junior sidekick, you have superthief with sexy girl partner (Marisa Mell: YUM!) on the side. Diabolik himself is somewhat of a cross between James Bond and Batman. He has every single gadget one could dream of, and anything he wants is no challenge or too big to steal. This movie is over the top in every way. All the characters are pretty much overplayed without a sense of humor. But I believe that it was meant to be that way. It's even heard in the music, wonderfully scored by Ennio Marcone. Instead of his typical style, we hear a cross between John Barry and Burt Bacharach (for those who don't know, ask your parents). And it all reminds of the cinematic style used in "Barbarella". The characters are all pretty one-dimensional. There are no real personalities here or any understanding why Diabolik does what he does. Except perhaps for the love of his sexy partner/sidekick. It sure is more interesting than having a boy wonder by your side. More than anything else, the strength in this movie are the visuals. Every scene is perfectly orchestrated and beautifully done. It's like a cross between the frames of a comic book and a fashion magazine. So it definately looks and feels like a 60s movie in every way one would imagine the stylish side of the era to be. I also found out that this movie was a huge inspiration to not only Mike Myers and The Beastie Boys, but also the Wachowski Brothers (The Matrix, Speed Racer). So to sum up, most people will either love or hate this movie. Or you could just sit back and enjoy the comic book flick for what it is. And for those that do hate it, will probably enjoy the MST3K version that completely trashes the film. It was also their finale episode. I just thought it was fun and will probably see it again.

To me it ages terrible the musical numbers should have been a high point, but they are tedious and with the exception of the title song, they are forgetable. The plot is silly even gy Elvis standards. I liked seeing the old shots of Las Vegas best.. I will say that Ann-Margret is one of Elvis' better leading ladies. Still, her part is pretty routine.
