Sumit S (ca) wrote: A fantastical odyssey of love, Caf de Flore is a love story between a man & a woman and between a woman & her son. The story is told in flashbacks, fast forwards & cross cutting narration. We are introduced to Antoine in present day Montreal, living a successful life with his loving partner & two beautiful daughters. Next introduction is of Jacqueline, a single parent with a disabled son in 1960s Paris whose life isn't all sunshine. The rest of the film is the slow & steady peeling of its layers to depict the connection between these two stories. Overall, Caf de Flore is a wonderfully layered, brilliantly photographed & intriguing story but is downsized by its overlong runtime & metaphysical complexities, resulting in a mixed multilayered experience.

Dan M (jp) wrote: When viewing Seagal's straight to dvd work, you need to throw out the usual review points for other flicks and access the 'Chubby Seagal but I love him' review standard. One of the better DTV films; Pistol Whipped starts out promisingly with a black & white gun battle in a cemetary, gravestones exploding in beautiful slow-mo. Kicked off the force for supposedly stealing a load of cash, Seagal plays an aging, gambling addicted alcoholic who is becoming more and more estranged from his daughter. As it's Seagal you take for granted that he will have a 'shady past' in the special forces area or close to that and this is exactly what you get. Lance the macdaddy Henriksen turns up to remind Seagal that he was the one who could 'walk into a room, terminate someone with extreme predujice and walk out like a fucking ghost!' which is exactly why ol Lance buys 1million of Steve's gambling debts putting him squarely in the pocket of the aforementioned Mr Henriksen. So Steven goes to work; popping bad folk like only he knows how...stylishly baby! In the end it's all pretty simple to figure out before the fact and fans of Seagal kicking arse & taking names will probably be disappointed at the lack of aikido, but apart from the film holds together and works reasonably well.

Jesse Y (au) wrote: A lowly rural newcomer to Beijing lands a job with a bicycle delivery service. Just as he is about to pay off the debt incurred for the company bike, it is stolen. Class differences in China are played out around the stubborn quest to reclaim said bike. This film is nothing to write home about, but it does have a certain charm to it. The central idea is solid, as is the execution - there isn't enough meat the bones though, there's a depth somewhere thats lacking. Nonetheless its very watchable and riffs off the the classical Italian art-house film 'The Bicycle Thief'
D M (br) wrote: A couple years after the incidents at the hotel occurred in the first film of this series a group a psychics explore the hotel to look for an explanation of the horrifying scene which was found there. One of the surviving psychics from the first film has been locked up in an insane asylum for criminally insane folk and is assumed to the perpetrator of the ghastly horrors. The new group pf psychics start to drop off in much the same fashion the first set. Not as good as the initial film of the series, but some good stuff like the introduction of Torch!
Mat K (de) wrote: A 1970s heist movie where the plan is not to get away with the money but the whole bank. George C. Scott does great dead pan comedy as the straight man. Unfortunately, other than the concept and Scott, it is a pretty average film.

Ian P (gb) wrote: I like the psychological and suspense/thriller themed of this movie. Plus the twist of the story is easily appreciated. I also like the fact that the setting is happening in one of my favorite interests - airplane. Jodie Foster here gave an excellent performance as a protective mother and at the same time a sanity questioned airplane engineer because of her recent emotional battles. This is a worthy thriller and action movie to watch that I highly recommend.
Brandon W (ru) wrote: This was the last film in the franchise with the Harry Potter formula. Harry has some expositional scenes before he rides the train to Hogwarts or meets up with Ron and Hermoine then continues with a balance between the light-hearted school plots (Quidditch, various character romances, etc.) and the darker Voldemort plotline, this time with Draco Malfoy undergoing his first task as a Death Eater. Many people have the same complaints as Goblet of Fire with the Half-Blood Prince. As I will admit that some pacing issues are at hand and some tonal differences often occur throughout the film, but it is helped that the plot always keeps moving forward. Each scene is essential to the next one. Unlike, Goblet of Fire's huge chunk of the film focusing on the Christmas Eve Dance. Overall, I liked this entry into the franchise. Its humorous parts were genuinely funny and it's dark moments were very well executed. Sure there wasn't as much action as some of the other entries in the franchise, but this acts as a necessary building block for the final showdown.
