Anna B (ru) wrote: Frustrating. Sometimes it feels like a beautifully assured, ambiguous character study/understated drama, and at others it feels like an overwrought, preachy melodrama. So I don't know. Also, with regard to the acting, I'm under the impression that Lawrence is a fan of doing one take and then moving on. For seasoned veterans such as Linney and Byrne, this isn't a problem, as they don't need much direction. Unfortunately, it allows Furness to deliver a performance that can only be described as "ham-fisted". She even trips over her lines a couple of times. It's really jarring in the midst of some fine, naturalistic performances and I found it rather irritating. The music was also kinda overdone. It was nice music, but I found it intrusive after a while. While I'm at it, some more character background would have been nice, like how an Irishman and an American ended up married and living in a small Australian town, but I can imagine the exposition would have been clunky. Still, some intimation that the characters (especially Linney's, whose accent is never commented on) weren't written for Australians and recast as foreigners at the last minute for marketing purposes would have put my mind at ease. Ah well. It's no big deal.

Derangeant et glauque, malgre une extreme lenteur et des prestations assez moyennes. Cette retranscription d'une affaire criminelle s'avere neanmoins plus interessante que si elle avait ete racontee par Pierre Bellemare...;-)

Cynthia S (it) wrote: The ending was disappointing to me. I understand that every movie can't have a happy ending, and it shouldn't determine the quality of the movie, but i really thought the movie ran out of gas. I loved the scenery, and holbrook was awesome. It just seems that more attention was paid to the beginning of the film. Decent, but by the end I felt it lost something...
