Christopher B (au) wrote: I kinda hate war films. When this started, sure I was impressed with the action setpieces but I dreaded watching a movie filled with staged battle sequences. However, after the first battle it focuses on the students who are left in charge of guarding a military base at a high school. From there it gets very involving. I also loved the portrayal of the main antagonist from North Korea, it was admirable that such a patriotic film never painted him out to be a complete shitheel.

Caroline D (jp) wrote: Rather mediocre, slow and un-exciting movie adaptation of a great novel (1 of my favourites ever). Good acting by the 2 protagonists, not sure (yet) how I feel about the changed ending.

Todd J (ru) wrote: his very early Maddin feature has a more direct silent approach than his later works, but it's still very innovative in what it does with the form. The story of a Czarist solider in the midst of the Bolshevik revolution, Maddin works with amnesiac characters to get at the outmodeled ways of the 19th century as the 20th century moved on. Naturally, there are love triangles aplenty, but luckily, the individual characters are all quite well-defined and followed. Even the cowardly husband of one major character gets a huge moment in which his guts are literally splayed out by Bolsheviks for him to scoop back up to reassert his manhood. Maddin's exquisite photography makes it all the better and brings to mind Communist war pics from Eisenstein to Kanal. **** out've *****

Kramer vs. Kramer dcadas depois segue atual e relevante.

Nathan M (ca) wrote: An interesting kind of period piece set in the early 90s, and a stylish and funny and sweet mob movie like we haven't seen before, Rob the Mob is entertaining in the best kinds of ways. It might not be the best made mob movie, but it's a pretty refreshing one. Instead of going for straight up comedy or the gritty sensibility so many films go for, Rob the Mob walks the line between both. Featuring fantastic leads Michael Pitt and Nina Arianda, you can't help but fall in love with these two... idiots?Director Raymond De Felitta utilizes his stylish sensibilities in order to tell the story of two small time crooks who try to rip off the mob and get away with it in a way that makes us laugh and get emotionally invested. With so many plot lines going, De Felitta knows how to balance all of them in a way where they build on each other rather than detract from one another. He handles his great cast in a strong manner, and even gets a remarkable performance out of comedian Ray Romano. All of the performances are really great, I've mentioned many of them, and haven't even gotten to Andy Garcia. If you're into mob movies, check this one out. The story is pretty basic, but the way its told is so refreshing.

Ms Amanda J (us) wrote: Raul Julia stole the show with his uh...voice. Yeah. The millions of interviews from Laura Harring (who played his wife in The Alamo: Thirteen Days to Glory) will tell ya - Raul Julia was a major presence and made such use of the actor's technique he made Harring want to stick with acting and leave her pageant dreams behind. I saw all of that here first prior to reading several interviews where she praised the fine actor. That said, the three main leads weren't too bad but Raul Julia is the reason I would see this again.
