Thomas W (br) wrote: Wanting to rid their society of the educated elitists and artists who welcomed western society, the Khmer Rouge took over Cambodia ridding itself of those they deemed intellectual threats and inspiring artists who could lead their population astray. They started a new society -- an ethnically pure one -- in which they also decried education killing those who dared question "how" or "why". Filmmaker Rithy Panh adapts his own memoir of Cambodian life between 1975-1979 and narrates the entire documentary feature using clay carvings to populate recreated scenes he remembers from his youth intercut with news reals and the few surviving photos the crazed despot Pol Pot allowed to survive his crazed reign. It is fascinatingly done but at times hard to follow as I admittedly know little about this actual story. A good documentary informs and incites curiosity to know more ... this has done that. This was nominated Best Foreign Language Film at the 2013 Academy Awards.

However I believe that the sentiments in it are true. I think the love these young men have for each other is genuine and the movie isn't all about Lebron. Equal time is given to each member of the Fab Five. It's really about five guys growing up in adverse situations and forming a brotherhood - and that's really not such a horrible story.

Daniel K (es) wrote: Jesus H Christ. Jean Harlow portrays such a heartless bitch. Her character is completely and utterly unsympathetic and she does NOT receive what would normally come to her. Thus the film departs from post-code (and basically every Hollywood picture ever made, in that the evildoer is left unpunished and actually flourishes because of their evil. Certainly not a great film, but extremely interesting to anyone with an interest in classic Hollywood films and/or pre/post-code differences. Harlow really works to make you hate her as well.
