Then i got a mindless actioner for you! Based on a graphic novel helps excuse the poor dialog and cliched plot. But it could have been a lot worse and it doesn't hurt my brain the way say the Fast franchise does. I bet this would have been a huge hit in the late 90's but the Rob Schneider would have been the co star, and we've been there done that

Its all a bit disjointed and the path through the story is a bit haphazard but the performances are generally solid. Doesn't quite live up to the promise the opening of the film makes. Shame.

After seeing someone get their throat cut with a Mountain Bike you can only wonder what is wrong with the film industry for approving this. God awful. Burn this movie if you get the chance. Im scared to even think about a sequel.

(jp) wrote: A mainstream submersion into the S&M gay culture in the seedy underbelly of NYC's WEST Village in the early 80s, allegedly inspired by actual killings of gay men between 1962 and 1979. The controversy following the film seems arbitrary in any case, considering its perpetuation of the stereotype that all gay men are mustachioed biker men in leather la Glenn Hughes of the Village People. However, its artificial nature and over the top stereotypes make it all the more interesting, depicting Al Pacino in an unlikely role as an undercover cop on the fence about his sexuality the deeper he climbs into the gay underworld. Overall, another engaging 80s serial killer thriller, concluding itself with a confusing ending pertaining to the identity of the actual killer.

(kr) wrote: One of the first cop movies to mix the whole concept of action and adventure with comedy, it more or less help shape and define how cop movies would be remembered and portrayed for years, possibly even to this day. The original owes its success to the strong presence and acting of its two main leads, Mel Gibson and Danny Glover. Without these men I doubt the franchise would have gotten very far, at least not three sequels and a TV show reboot far. And while it is not the strongest of the series, that would be the second one, it still feels like a must watch for people wanting to get into the business of making action movies.

What they end up finding is admit the nationwide craze of satanic cults, there is one right under their nose wrecking havoc to the rest of the town. This is an amazing set up, too bad it is grounded in reality so there is really only one ending and it will disappoint the vast majority of people out there as shown by the reviews and reaction to this film. Not sure what people expected. Don't get me wrong, it was disappointing too, but I knew what to expect just from the opening credits. With that said, this had a lot more potential. The use of surrounds to mimmic voices in your head the the overall uneasiness is unlike any other film in recent memory. The soundtrack alone is 5 stars if you have a 5.1 surround sound hookup (I assume most don't). Hawke and Watson are pretty solid. The direction is great and it always feel creepy. The problem is they decided to keep this grounded in realism so you know it's going to be nothing but smoke and mirrors.Maybe that is the point, we want to believe something so out there and fantastical, we forget to realize something the simplest and most basic explanation is the one that is indeed true.

I find myself questioning why on earth I then decided to watch it but anything seemed better than researching insurance quotes that I was busy doing that afternoon. It wasn't appealing enough to captivate me 100% but it was a bog standard watchable film that was as predictable as it's 'Step Up' and 'Streetdance' friends. I don't actually think it was as good as those simply because of the lack of innovative and imaginative dance moves, yet this was more about the storytelling than anything else. It was a typical teen girl movie that assumes that everyone wants to be Honey, a cool kid, that is down with the streets, has a passion for dance, and is the object of every boys desire. Dominated by very black cultural settings, there's a lot of 'you got it goin' on girlfriend' and 'I got your back, dog' lingo, as well as the underground drug operations taking place. This all adds to the atmosphere of the film though, and shows how good can develop from a stereotypical ghetto environment. With cameo appearances from stars like Missy E, this movie is really punching above its weight and it hasn't quite got the quality and credibility that it's cast may suggest. Yes, it's watchable and flows well, but it's not the best of its genre, and doesn't stand up to the likes of Save The Last Dance which albeit cheesy, is executed very well. You won't be disappointed by this, but you will be left wanting.
