Dylan D (es) wrote: Office Christmas Party doesn't redefine its genre. It's a fairly straightforward movie, maneuvering through all of the raunchy, boozy, sexy, drug-induced madness audiences expect of these sorts of films. It's a good midlevel representation of what the genre is all about, enjoyable for the most part and overcoming its core staleness thanks to a very enthusiastic ensemble.

Laurence P (de) wrote: As a director Madonna's understanding of subtlety and nuance is akin to a stiff punch to the gut. She doesn't get it at all. Incomprehensible at times and pretentious in others, there isn't that much reason to watch it. I skipped some of the more arduous scenes that were hard to get through. Doing this made the movie easier to watch. The immigrant storyline which takes place in London is mildly interesting. The problem is that Madonna doesn't know how to bring her ideas and observations together in a way that makes enough sense. This lack if comprehension for the story she is trying to tell coupled with her inexperience as a director leads to on screen confusion and annoyance.

jeroen v (gb) wrote: Seriously flawed documentary with a high entertainment value. We don't really get to go inside this story as it eventually hangs together by speculation and innuendo. We don't really know if the police investigation was botched, what really took place and why the family was torn apart to such an extent. However, you are on the edge of your seat and it is never boring. I would've like to hear more from the investigative journalist and her opinions on this case, and the refusal of one of the brothers to be interviewed is a main stumbling block for the succesfull telling of the story. The difference of opinion between the younger brother and his lawyer should've been explored more as it is a major intrigue. The film ends with a rather unethical ploy by the filmmaker, when he suddenly reveals the uncle has a gay partner, as if that is a twist to the story, implying that as one brother is a paedophile the other one is not quite normal either. That is a farfetched twist wholly invented by Jarecki and it leaves a bad taste.

Matt C (fr) wrote: This is pretty much completely aimed at toddlers...the humour for the accompanying adult really isn't there, nothing wrong with that though. My 3 year old son was in hysterics at the the rodent and his acorn so clearly something here is working well. The story itself is good enough, animation pretty patchy but this is a good watch with your toddler for a cozy Sunday evening.

Fran H (ag) wrote: I liked it. I liked the premise, about an alcoholic super hero. Will Smith did a great job, it was funny, Charlize looked good, Jason Bateman was spot-on with his cliched advertising guy. It wasn't deep or cerebral, it was just fun. I didn't find the plotline all that ridiculous, though it was a bit far out. Unlike most movies nowadays? I don't think so. This one was pretty level-headed in comparison. Anyway, it was well done and definitely worth a watch, IMO.
