Agatino Z (ru) wrote: Along with Andrew Jarecki's Capturing The Friedmans, Sarah Polley's turning of the camera to her own past is an exercise in the uncertainty of memory where secrets unveiled seem less real than what we actually remember.
Philip S (br) wrote: An odd but entertaining film. It has a bit of an indie vibe which I did not expect. The cast is relatively strong, with Patton Oswalt as the surprising anchor. I can't pretend to know what the message of the film was supposed to be, and the action is a bit too obvious, but it does have a certain off-beat flavor that I appreciated. Not a winner, but not a failure either. Theron fans will enjoy it.

Niki G (au) wrote: Probably the worst movie I've ever seen and I've seen tons of movies. You could see the boom in many shots of this sloppily made film, just to start with. In some scenes, you could clearly see people in the background who weren't supposed to be there (ie in the "haunted house" scene, someone [likely a character's parent] is watching TV in the background). The acting was horrific - these kids made middle school plays look like Broadway! Every line was delivered half-heartedly. My favorite part of this movie was the end. You know why? "Because it ended?" No, because it has bloopers, near the side of the credits, which look like something out of Windows Movie Maker, by the way. The bloopers seemed more serious than the actual movie. What a waste of film! Good thing their budget was probably like under $100!

Matt M (es) wrote: Musical and highly fictionalised account of the life of Fanny Brice, a Ziegfeld star who won audiences with her comic antics and powerful singing, and her troubled love story with a professional gambler. Streisand reprises her Broadway role in this film production signed by Wyler who makes everything look majestic and glamorous, in a role that she was seemingly born to play. The musical numbers are very lively and the art direction is wonderful.
Emily S (br) wrote: This film was made less than 10 years after Gershwin's death, and the Gershwin family were very involved in its making. Robert Alda gives a wonderful performance as George, and Oscar Levant plays himself to the full capacity of his genius and insanity. And Levant's performance of Gershwin's "Rhapsody in Blue" gives me goosebumps every time. If you like Gershwin, watch this film. It only made me appreciate the man more.
Aj V (nl) wrote: This movie reminded me of better movies from the 40s. It's an alright story and all, but I couldn't get into it, the dialogue was less than average, and so was the acting. Overall, not a great movie, but not horrible, it does have a realistic story.
Tyler S (es) wrote: Was expecting less. Actually, entertaining and suspenseful enough to keep me engaged and (somewhat) entertained. No depth to it, but was it suppose to?
Antoine V (br) wrote: Everything in this movie makes it a classic: the cast is great, the story even if obvious, delivers some great moments, the dialogues are well written, the music is perfect. This is a classic and deserves more than it's actual rating.
