The storyline for this picture is fairly entertaining and has a strong Woody Allen feel to it. It does have a strong New York City presence and the acting is very good. The cast includes John Tuturro, Woody Allen, Sharon Stone, Liev Shreiber, and Vanessa Paradis."I'm your ho.""It's the oldest profession."I found this movie while looking up Woody Allen pictures on Netflix. I decided to give it a viewing and found it better than I anticipated. I knew going in it wasn't directed by Allen, but it could have been the way Tuturro shot the film. Rick R (gb) wrote: Waking Ned Devine (1998)Your stereotypical Irish movies to watch during St. Paddy's Day. There's the Quiet Man (1952) and then there's the more modern Waking Ned Devine. From the ballad, The Parting Glass, to the rugged landscapes of the Isle of Man, what a perfect movie about Irish blarney! Written and directed by Kirk Jones and staring a whole town full of interesting characters, the most interesting, being Jackie O'Shea (Ian Bannen) and his more innocent friend, Michael O'Sullivan (David Kelly). When Ned Devine (Jimmy Keogh) dies from the shock of winning the national lottery, Jackie decides to let Michael take on the identity for them to collect the winnings. Ned would have wanted it that way, right?Of course Michael needs to fool the lottery official and all sorts of antics ensue including a naked motorcycle race to Ned's shack. Even Jackie's wife, Annie (Fionnula Flanagan) thinks that this is doomed to fail and that her husband will be going to prison. It's soon getting around town about the scheme.Even with all of the larceny, the movie is a very fun-loving, feel-good movie and comes highly recommended.
