Deb K (kr) wrote: De Mornay actually does a good job as an aging singer who is living off her past success. It doesnt really have much to do with the story, but she brings the role to life. It was an entertaining movie, however, nothing spectacular that stuck out to me. For that I give it a 3 Star.

Felix W (ca) wrote: "Spartan" is a brilliant thriller that unfolds more and as it goes on. It peels off the layers like and onion and there is always another surprise around the corner. The writer doesn't feel the need to introduce the characters and jumps right into action and that is a refreshing change. The dialogue is very well thought out and more extensive than the usual one liners that is what makes this triller so unique. The absence of catchphrases or worn out lines makes the dialogue and atmosphere feel more tens and perfectly fits the movies overall theme. Val Kilmer shows one of the best performances of his career a total badass. Macy and Bell also deliver solid performances. The directing is very good and is different than in other thrillers. Rather than trying to lay focus on the characters Mamet lays focus on the plot and lets the actors do their thing which helps the plot unfold so much better and the characters to bloom. He does this with great camera work. There are some great long shots that just raise the tension and excitement. There are also many hidden details in this movie that can give the viewer a clue about the proceedings in the story and pull the viewer even more into the story. In conclusion we can say that we have a very unconventional yet brilliant thriller that excites from start to end and makes the viewer feel at home.

J Scott F (br) wrote: How does one add commentary to what has been called the "greatest film of all time?" First off, I'm not sure about that. Granted, the direction and editing created emotional intensity and empathy via montages, which proved highly influential in the history of film. However, the use of quick montage was also revolutionary when Abel Gance used it in "La Roue" to much the same effect a year earlier. Today, we are so accustomed to quick multiple edits and montages that it's difficult to analyze it from an uninitiated viewpoint. Secondly, this is a propaganda film, plain & simple. I'm a bit surprised that the US ever allowed it to be shown due to its philosophical support of communism. However, it should be seen and studied by everyone so as to keep democracies from succumbing to the same sort of propaganda - and likewise to understand the elements that create such a populist revolution. When you disrespect the workers, create blatant inequalities, and serve them tainted meat . . . well, this is what happens.

Ada D (jp) wrote: Resident Evil: Retribution joins Alice on her hunt to seek and destroy those responsible for releasing the deadly T-Virus on the world. Directed by Paul W.S. Anderson. There is so much to say about this film, it felt rushed at times, it felt boring at times and it was short and really went no where. The Acting was still great, I enjoy Milla Jovovich and the character of Alice is still fun and badass. I think they should have left out the characters from the video game, they didn't have them in the first two movies so adding them now seems odd and can anger fans of the game. I don't like the direction the story went after part two there was so much they could have done but didn't. I do always enjoy the fun action scenes and slow motion combat but this film was really lacking that excitement. Overall it could have been a lot better.

Brad S (ag) wrote: Standard rom-com where best friend fall in love. The story is absolutely nothing new, but the leads are good and keep it interesting and there's a funny scene set to Bowie's "Modern Love" which seems to be the go to song of his for movies. Worth a watch if need something light and easy to watch.
