Blossoms in the Dust

Blossoms in the Dust

Edna marries Texan Sam Gladney, operator of a wheat mill. They have a son, who is killed when very young. Edna discovers by chance how the law treats children who are without parents and decides to do something about it. She opens a home for foundlings and orphans and begins to place children in good homes, despite the opposition of "conservative" citizens, who would condemn illegitimate children for being born out of wedlock. Eventually Edna leads a fight in the Texas legislature to remove the stigma of illegitimacy from birth records in that state, while continuing to be an advocate for homeless children.

You gon' work long hard hours with the church choir the rest of the summer.Cyrus: But dadJacob: That's all Cyrus!Gail: Jacob! He's just trying to show you his songs.Jacob: What kind of songs?Gail: Honey does it matter? Your son want to share a part of himself with you. Is it so important what genre of music it's in? Honestly!

I know he insisted this movie isn't an autobiography. While dramatized and not completely accurate, the plot walked with a man who entertained so many while dealing with personal demons. This film explained where he got his street vernacular and swagger. Many critics pass over this film as painful to watch. I find that interesting because I love to watch it.While not perfect, I think it makes important statements about pain, fame, and addiction. I miss Richard Pryor. His legacy is still felt in so much of our popular culture now. I just bought this movie on Amazon and I can't wait to watch it another 10 times.

Allan C (gb) wrote: Okay western that gets credit for making telling a western story from a black perspective and not a blaxploitation/Fred Williamson type of grind house hyperbolic perspective. Sidney Poitier plays a wagon master who gets hooked up with a con man posing as a preacher. The two then help lead a wagon train of freed slaves to a safe homiest and protect the group from unscrupulous bounty hunters. The film has a comedic light touch, but does also manage to include social commentary that's pertinent to the modern race relations. Cameron Mitchell plays the main baddie and Benny Carter provides a catchy harmonica based score.

Ben B (ag) wrote: Un trs bon Astrix. L'animation est plutt mauvaise (a reste trs statique et les scnes d'action manquent de rythme) mais l'humour est excellent.

Alex S (ru) wrote: This was just a fantastic movie. There were scenes that didn't even seem possible for this time period, and scenes that looked much better than some of the movies today. This is easily one of the most influential movies ever made. If you are a fan of experimental filmmaking, as I am, you cannot miss this movie.

Mark K (es) wrote: Lead actress is immensely hot, storyline is gripping, and is simply a film worth watching!

Jason T (kr) wrote: The film features a interesting story and decent performances, but then the cliches pile on. It's story and predictable and with a bigger budget and script might have been something special.

Candice F (us) wrote: The Smurfs has no need for so much silly action but Gargamels fails really brought the laugh out of me. If they really wanted it to take place in NYC they should have more places to explore than just an office, apartment and a toy store. I would have liked to see them on the statue of liberty because it would build up more suspense if they had more places to explore.
