Linda F (es) wrote: i thought this movie was funny enough to watch two times...despite the bad ratings. lots of actors in here, and their representation of the early 1990's is pretty on point.

Brynn H (ca) wrote: I thought this was pretty funny...she may have been slightly psycho but he was being a douche and her plan worked.

Moe R (au) wrote: Totally different than I thought, it focuses more on character study than it does on the actual case. However, there is a moment that might not make you feel comfortable.

Nikia J (ag) wrote: I Love this Movie. This movie is one of the best movies i have seen in a while. I couldn't believe how it ended and i ran out to buy motives 2.

Irene A (br) wrote: Like most romantic comedy, jalla! jalla! is a bit cheesy and predictable. The story is garnished with the interesting cultural aspect of an immigrant family in Sweden, in a light and non-patronizing way. Like most of my Swedish friends have seen it, and i think they agree this movie is cool for a laugh :)

Olaolu A (au) wrote: About to enjoy some old school Russell Crowe; I'll be sure to let everyone know how it went!

Krista M (br) wrote: I liked this movie but for no particular reason except that it reminds me of the days when I was obsessed w/ Helena B. Carter & Merchany/Ivory films.

Tyler G (us) wrote: Since this movie obviously had a large budget and was supposed to be good, it gets only one star. On the other hand, if it was meant to be bad, I would give it 5. Brandon Lee stars in this film. The synopsis says it takes place in Cuba, but surprisingly enough, Cuba looks a lot like Africa in parts. In fact, if I remember correctly, there is some type of mine in this Cubafrica, and there is also a large desert that Lee treks across. There are random ninja attacks, unexplainable explosions, an EDITING mistake where 15 minutes of the film repeats itself, and twist endings where the "bad guy" reappears about 5 times. Acting is quite bad, and there are some ridiculous "european" accents. I think a ten year old probably directed this, and I also believe it was most likely written by one who had just seen his first James Bond movie. On the plus side, there is a ninja and a big-game hunter. Also, there is a sword wielding assassin.

Spencer S (es) wrote: An errant film with very little going for it except that at the time it was supposed to be shocking. It doesn't have much else to back it up except for the fact that it is led by none other than Barbara Stanwyck, who plays the beautiful and bodacious Dixie Daisy who is a burlesque headlining performer at a striptease theater called Old Opera Theater. Much of the film showcases inferior numbers from the singer and dancer, as well as comedienne, with many scenes backstage to show the voluminous costumes of her counterpart actresses. The film itself mostly takes place in the theater, and doesn't try to explore the characters or their performances as much as it should have. Everyone, including the leads, are so two dimensional and drab, a hard feat to accomplish in a film about striptease artists. The film soon varies into hard boiled detective thriller, but never is smart or intriguing enough to be true noir. Instead it stumbles on clumsy dialogue and plot devices which only serve to lengthen this film into ninety minutes. The humor is even humdrum, as this was in the days of the Hays Code and stays mostly family friendly throughout. If it had been as bawdy as a Mae West, really this film would have sizzled, but Stanwyck is given very little to work with. The only adult content is a hinted affair between the manager and a dancer who was blackmailing him, and the fact that several girls are being strangled to death with G-strings. The book that this was based upon was written by Gypsy Rose Lee, which doesn't give it any prominence and actually serves to cheapen it all the more. Stanwyck had earlier portrayed a performer in Ball of Fire, and in that film there was a lot more production value, better music, and more genuine a character with great humor. Stanwyck started in this line of work and it only makes sense that she would go back to it time and again in films, but this was just not the shocker it was meant to be, and in that, it suffers as a dull picture.

Clay O (de) wrote: Why has this movie been rated so low? I'm guessing it is because it deals with issues which most folks cannot bear to contemplate. I loved it for the issues it exposed and the acting.

Mike S (ru) wrote: This romantic comedy is uneven and rarely rises above merely amusing. The premise: four couples, all friends with each other, go to an exotic resort for couples therapy. Only one couple really wants the therapy; the rest just want a vacation but get roped into therapy anyway. There's potential here, but perhaps there were too many characters. In addition, the script swung back and forth between broad sex comedy and fairly serious relationship drama. There were a few touching moments, and I liked that the characters sometimes responded in ways that seemed very honest instead of going for broad laughs. But the overall effect was an inconsistent tone and mood.

Gaspar O (ag) wrote: For an old story that had the potential to be a snoozefest, this true tale was interesting enough to keep us awake long after most people are piling up the firewood. It was not exciting, it was not fun, it was just interesting, perhaps even entertaining.

Karol P (fr) wrote: Classic, Brilliant, superbly acted thorough out!
