However, Noe does have a certain style to his camerawork that makes the atmosphere worth experiencing, not to mention an excellent central performance from Vincent Cassel. Also, don't be confused, this movie is just a stereotypical revenge flick told in reverse and therefore isn't all that original in its overarching story. The entire infamous scene in this movie isn't nearly as bad as people say, probably because I didn't care about the character at all. As usual with Gaspar Noe, the extreme content seems to be his idea of good cinema, when really it's not

hey were that perfectly cast!. Actually after watching the film I actually craved seeing Michael Caine and Ben Kinsley in a serious adaption of a Holmes story. As it is it is still satisfying and the cast just fantastic. Perhaps with a little tighter script and maybe a little more comedy this Sherlock Holmes spoof could have been even better. It's actually a strange combination as if the filmmakers weren't sure if they wanted to go the complete comedy route our not and the result is just a little bit confused. Still however people expecting a complete comedy with wall-to-wall laughs will come out a little disappointed as the laughs are spaced out and even mixed in with some downright serious moments. The film has some great comedic sequences and thankfully the filmmakers opted out at making this a complete slap stick comedy. These guys are great and complement each other perfectly! I had a ball of a time seeing Holmes as a drunk, skirt chasing buffoon and Watson as the cool and collected crime solver. To be honest with Michael Caine and Ben Kingsley they could have made this a serious Sherlock Holmes adaption and it would have been just as good or even better. Despite having strong production values and solid directing, the main draw of this film is it's stupendous cast. All clues lead Holmes and Watson (or should it be Watson and Holmes?) to devious criminal master Professor Moriarity (Paul Freeman, whom you might remember from Raiders of the Lost Ark). While bickering behind the public's eye throughout most of the film, they both always tend to mend fences while solving a crime of some stolen money printing plates. To make the character real he hires a down-and-out bum actor (Michael Caine) whom he coaches through solving crimes. While solving crimes Watson wrote many stories about a character he created named Sherlock Holmes. The plot to this version of Sherlock Holmes turns the original vision on its head by making Sherlock Holmes partner/sidekick Dr Watson (Ben Kingsley) the crime-solving mastermind. The film-makers this time wisely decided to make Without a Clue a semi-spoof of the character Sherlock Holmes adding nice amounts of comedy into the mix. and thankfully they did. . . How many adaptations of The Hound of Baskervilles was there? A hundred? Anyway you get my point and if filmmakers were going to give Sherlock Holmes another cinematic go-around it was time to try something new. By 1988 cinematic adaptations of Sherlock Holmes had been done to death

I don't need to say it because it's a decent movie it wasn't fantasic but it was all right. . . . I think this is a dark comedy. I don't need to say anything about this

ne of my favorite films!!. A bit slow to start, but be patient because once the story picks up, you'll see why it's worth the wait. Beautiful love story

Very good performances and direction. Especially the Dad and Son interaction is special. They do tend to explore a few too many but still works well together. Good exploration of relationships. Loved the movie

Truly a melodrama for the modern age. Where, in the past, religion would have been the source of our heroine's redemption, in this film, the modern social work/welfare establishment saves her. It also is sort of an odd homage to liberal bureaucratic institutions. they are unimaginably hard to the point of straining credulity. . . or even really really hard . . . Things aren't just hard for our protagonist . I would say that it seems to pass the normal boundaries of melodrama and moves into the realm of the really excessive. It's really not in my wheel house. I think it has a lot to do with it's origin as a Oprah Winfrey/Tyler Perry co-production. Although I admire this film, I didn't really like it. I'm quite a fan of melodrama, and I like TV-movie-of-the-week redemption stories. she disappears into her role. . . Mariah Carey is even quite good . Mo'Nique deserves the high praise she got for a really quite incredibly fearless performance. The acting is superb. It's well-made. Here's a film I probably should like, but I can't really say that I do

No wonder they wanted a remake. Very good idea. Very clever movie

/10. Instead, it needs to be rounded up to a 7/10, all because of the ending. 5/10, which would be rounded up to an 8/10 for rating purposes. Fact is, this could have been a 7. 3) After the final battle, there is no mention whatsoever of what happens to the band of vampires that has been murdering the entire town for the past month. 2) The final battle ends suddenly and on a note that is anti-dramatic. Hopefully anyone who has seen this knows what I am talking about, because I'm not going to spoil it. 1) As the movie was going along quite well, as the climax approaches, they adopt a terribly cliche approach. I have three reasons for this statement. So what's not to like? The ending is quite literally one of the worst endings I have ever seen. I think 30 Days of Night has a great gimmick, vampires in a place where there is a month of night, which sets up a great survival horror scenario, which alongside of atmosphere, the filmmakers really capitalized on. 5/10 in my book, but unfortunately it is not. 30 Days of Night could have been a 7
