Almost all of the good aspects (and there are some, to be sure) are straight rip offs from much better movies.

Kyle G (jp) wrote: A loopy yet subtle comedy with an awesome, strange conceit (kind of like eXistenZ on Quaaludes). Although the male-female/gay-straight mix-'em-ups can sometimes be broad or indulgent -- especially in the off-kilter, American Pie-esque beginning -- the overall drama, examining confusion and frustration in romance, friendship, and sexual politics, is always intelligent and provocative in just the right way.
Dean E (ca) wrote: I appreciate the idea of a monster movie that is self aware enough to make fun of itself but so much of the humour is poorly delivered. Methinks this is mostly at the fault of the director. And perhaps it was the result of forced rewrites but for the lines it has that make fun of itself, there are still too many lines to laugh at that don't seem to be intentionally funny. Is it at least entertaining? I guess...?

Jake Z (ru) wrote: From Hell is one of those films that I'm aware of the fact that it isn't a very good one, and yet I still like to watch it for it's lavish production values, thick atmosphere, and the fact that I'm a true crime/unsolved mysteries junkie. Especially when it comes to Jack The Ripper. Also, this is one of Depp's most underrated performances. Still, it's definitely overlong at 2 hours, a bit slow and dull in the second half, and Graham is miscast.
