Vaya...

Jordan F (gb) wrote: average comedy with great actors. Sam Rockwell and Mark Ruffalo were the funniest part. However the film felt to rushed through.

AJ S (jp) wrote: Franois Truffaut??s third outing with doppelganger Antoine Doinel shows that the boy never grew into a man, which may be more out of awkward prose than narrative development in life imitating art yet again. ??Stolen Kisses?? is a story packed with plot as Antoine is dishonorably discharged from the army and follows this up by trying his hand at several uninspired occupations. Jean-Pierre Laud looks more and more like his director with age, but his personality seems to fluctuate from one Doinel performance to the next. This chapter sees Antoine as a shy, yet persistent lover of many women he refuses to know anything about; mainly the one he desires most of all. However, Doinel??s lack of voice may just be negligence on the director??s part by falsely translating an intentionally articulate nature with unintentional shyness and an uncouth demeanor. Truffaut is obviously channeling his own experiences in this, returning to the extremely personal roots seen in ??The 400 Blows?? and ??Antoine and Colette?? after several critical and box office failures. ??Kisses?? may have been a success, if not for the familiarity of Doinel, but due to the somewhat impulsive way it is created. The film sports a distinct feel for the city of Paris just as its predecessors did in having the filmmaker return to the streets he knows so well. Again, Truffaut is utilizing his championing story arc by navigating familiar territory with effortless care. At many points, the film runs into imprudent problems due to an apparent heedlessness but this is where its heart is also found. The mistakes hold a documentary feel to them, in finding the personal that is both actor and director markings, presenting an accidental charm that makes Truffaut??s effort enjoyable.

Stefanie R (nl) wrote: I'm sorry but I didn't like it... The musical numbers weren't great all... I don't blame Fred Astaire cause I know he was an amazing dancer, is just that the music, choreography and direction wasn't that great... Plus he looked like he could be Audrey Hepburn's dad... I mean he was 30 years older than her... No chemistry whatsoever...
