Starting in late May 1944, during the German retreat on the Eastern Front, Captain Stransky (Helmut Griem) orders Sergeant Steiner (Richard Burton) to blow up a railway tunnel to prevent Russian forces from using it. Steiner's platoon fails in its mission by coming up against a Russian tank. Steiner then takes a furlough to Paris just as the Allies launch their invasion of Normandy.

Just because you're too lazy to tell everyone's backround story in an appealing way it's not a good idea to -swoosh swoosh- caption every person of this movie. It means you should have made clear changes of the script. And while at it, the super flat dialogues should have been just crossed out, too. The really really only good positive thing: Janet McTeer.

This movie fails though on its conceptual message - the professor is brilliant, and the students in the class fail in their very actions to recognize that. In short, this movie prevails as the clear dominating ideal of what not to do, and by suggesting otherwise brings down every relating perception which the movie pushes as actualizing promise. This movie would be better redone, with a new presenting image and message - that philosophy guides and shapes future actions by its tantalizing concepts, even if those very thoughts are what make humanity suffer to succeed.
(mx) wrote: Not particularly amazing stories on their own, but together they make for a really cool tv movie. The whole style is just so incredibly 90s, what with the crazy music and odd design. John Carpenter's segments were the best, but Tobe Hooper's was pretty interesting as well (Mark Hamill with mustache). I kind've wish the movie was just about the hilarious zombie mortician who totally stole the show, which was incidentally played by John Carpenter himself.
