Great doc, inspiring to say the least. It truly gives me a greater sense of appreciation for those who are in dier situations and choose to grab a hold of any liferaft they can and wade their way to safety than to succumb to their surroundings. For a 2005 doc I thought it means more to me today as I just watched for maybe the 15th time. This documentary was exactly what it was supposed to be, a light shined on something that was growing over here in the dark corner. People need to get a clue. Lets see, people who are from urban areas and seen this dance up close all rate it high and people from what seems like more structured and affluent backgrounds all rated it low

I pretty much didn't like her as an actress. Macy is an acting god, but I'm not sure Debra was the best choice to costar. I like David Mamet's work a lot and William H

Worth a rental, but unlikely to be very memorable. " Problem is, I'm not really sure where that "somewhere" is. More an attempt at some kind of "depth" or meaning that also feels like the writers didn't know where to go with the story so they tacked on this whole weird ending metaphor to take it "somewhere. But as a whole, the movie doesn't really know what it is, and the vague religious stuff happening falls flat and feels more lazy than anything. In any case, Blanchett is a stunningly brilliant actress, and dominates the film particularly early in the film as she breaks down under interrogation. It sounds kind of silly, and is I suppose. They sneak up and jump into the police helicopter then fly up into the sky until they disappear presumably into the heavens. The film closes with a kind of metaphorical escape where after finally making love on some kind of edenic hill with a tree, the police swarm the farmhouse they were hiding in on the next hill. This part was halfway kind of fascinating, and halfway ridiculous and vapid. They don identical white wifebeaters and shave their heads, and I guess represent some kind of adam and eve character (their names, btw, are Philippa and Filippo), as they try to hide from the Carabinieri who are hunting them. And here is where the title of the film comes in, and it becomes some kind of vague religious parable. Together they manage to escape and kill the drug-lord then run off into the country. But the italian translator played by Giovanni Ribisi falls in love with her. She breaks down when she learns this during interrogation. She attempts to bomb him in his office, but ends up killing a maid, and a father and his two little girls. Her husband apparently died from a drug overdose, and she is on a mission to kill a well-connected guy who is the drug-kingpin and long-time friend of her husband. At first it starts out a story of revenge tangled up in love, Blanchett plays a schoolteacher who has just been arrested for terrorism. Never heard of this, an impulse rent based on the cast (Blanchett), a really interesting attempt by the director of Run Lola Run

A good cast is victim to a poor script. It could have been so much better had it not been so dumb. Melodramatic and contrived

Arabesque isn't in the same level of Charade (Stanley Donen earlier movie), but it's quite interesting and entertaining, especially for Gregory Peck's comedy turn

Waste of time. I'd say something about this, but everyone else pretty much said everything there is to say

It was never boring. Not horribly bad, plus they nailed the Balkans/Eastern Europe mentality 100%

Not much else to recommend. Good score. The acting is fine at least. Most of the movie is copied from other movies so it obviously lacks originality. Been there, done that scenario
