Shawn W (de) wrote: Weak action film has a professor and girlfriend dodging Soviet agents in Africa after photo negatives in a bible are left in his mailbox. More than a bit frustrating to see the couple with a persistent "ah, shucks" attitude over the fact that their lives are in constant danger from being killed by the KGB. Might have worked without the comedy attempts.

Steve C (jp) wrote: OK. Dreamy young writer in magnificent chateau languorously smokes cigarettes in bed (bare chested), dashes about on motorcycles AND horses, and works on follow up to "cult novel of the young generation" while playing the piano and being tortured by dreams of a dark-haired beauty. What kind of wack assed shit is this? It's like a Merchant Ivory slob job, like a Frenchman's wet dream of his own Euro cool.but THEN....Young writer crashes his bike in the forest and meets his "mysterious dream lady." That's when the gears shift hard and we get this bizarre scene of him trailing her through a blue black and silver forest as she narrates her trauma, an engrossing 8 minute monologue, in mangled French, a history of death and dislocation which ends in her claiming to be his half-sister.And then they engage in incestuous relations.THE ENDBut before the end there's some fumbling and brilliant scenes, some stuff about disfigurement, identities, uncertainty, trauma, margins, etc. Interesting!

Cassie P (fr) wrote: A good portrayal, and yet lacking in the areas where you want more information. This is from the point of view of George Sand, a radical woman that dresses as a man, and wants to be a part of Chopin's life. I was hoping it would be more about Chopin's life than hers, but sadly it isn't and from that it suffers.

Roberto L (br) wrote: Arch Hall Jr.! Ray Dennis Steckler! Nancy Czar (Steckler's wife at the time, and a former stripper)! Cheesy rock n roll! What's not to love? But my favorite element is Cash Flagg (Steckler)'s performance as the sharp-dressin', switchblade-totin' Steak. Yeh-yeh!

Johnathon W (de) wrote: Hilarious dark comedy that brings a twisted edge to Christmas. Billy Bob Thornton is superb in the title role, not softening Willie's edges (he is genuinely a bad person) while bringing enough humor & fun that you enjoy watching him. He gets great support from the rest of the cast, particularly Tony Cox as his professional partner while Lauren Graham is a delight as a Jewish bartender with a thing for Santas. Behind the camera, Terry Zwigoff crafts a twisted comedy making fun of the consumerism that plagues the holidays (while Willie cracks the mall safes, Marcus goes on an impromptu shopping spree) while not making his characters fully redeemable. Willie maybe gets slightly better in the end but not by much and all the hijinks lead to one of the funniest & darkest Christmas scenes in film history (you'll never look at Santa giving a kid a present the same way again). A great comedy all a round, especially for those looking for some twisted fun during the holidays.
