(us) wrote: Dirty Mary Crazy Larry, one of the exciting exploitation films of the 70's to involve fast cars, chase scenes, and big crashes involves the story of former race driver Peter Fonda and mechanic Adam Roarke pulling off an early morning robbery of a grocery store by quietly taking the store manager's (an uncredited Roddy McDowall) family hostage in an effective scene that utilizes Roarke's scary demeanor without violence. The heist is pulled off well enough, but what isn't factored is the surprise presence of town local Susan George (a one-night stand for Fonda's character) who comes along for the ride. Before the trio can completely escape the area, the entire police force is in on their game and working all the long stretches of country roads to find them, thanks to the help of renegade cop Vic Morrow. In a somewhat Dukes of Hazard style scenario, the trio keep on losing or destroying the cops all throughout the movie, with nice elements of comedy and action intertwined throughout. Fonda and then-incredibly gorgeous George are perfect leads for this film, but Roarke proves to be a real scene stealer as his character evolves throughout the film unexpectedly from supposedly crazed monster to a quiet soul with a heart of gold. Good performances throughout and a solid exploitation film. Surprised I managed to finally watch this movie in 2010 without a single bit of it being ruined for me, especially the out-of-nowhere, unpredictable ending. Look for former Jason Voorhees Ted White (Friday the 13th 3) and former Michael Myers Dick Warlock (Halloween 2) in brief roles as two of the many troopers throughout this film. Enjoyable watch indeed.
