(mx) wrote: GREAT MOVIE! Didn't think I would like it and "I don't want to see a school massacre"! Geez how depressing...however this is about so much more. Its about how we can mess up our children with our problems. (Not everyone should have kids) This movie shows the parents out of control and how the son suffered. They could not get in touch with their emotions and thought hard work and perfectionism make you human.

So despite the good reviews I wasn't a big enough fan to grab myself a cinema ticket, and by and large in hindsight I'm glad I didn't. Not that this is a bad big screen effort, it's just that the show worked on subtlety with very little actually happening, this in an attempt to be more fitting for the big screen has tonnes, so something has been lost along the way; but then again the TV show was if anything a little too subtle and sluggish at times. Overall this is something that Partridge fans will cherish, but it doesn't do a great deal to win me over.
(kr) wrote: YES! This is a FANTASTIC documentary. It's everything I hoped it would be and more. A Joy Division fan since 1980, I felt like a pirate whose just found a huge box of treasure and is looking through it for the first time. Many of the photographs I had never before seen. The "hypnosis cassette" was news to me, and I thought I knew the Joy Division myth through and through. The lion's share of principles are here with only a couple of notable exceptions (Deborah Curtis, most notably). Their first hand testimony sheds much new light on a story that every serious rock music connoisseur should already know by heart. And if, God forbid, there is one out there who is still clueless about this classic group, no doubt he/she will be eager to investigate further after the end credits roll. Top notch...

(es) wrote: Very well acted. I would like to see more performances like this from Sandler - much more textured than anything else he's done. Some of my friends do not like the bittersweet ending - I'm not sure the story sets up expectations well enough. The director is trying to do something different with the romance genre. But the tone of the romance and comedy are very well done.

(nl) wrote: Awesome mobster movie! The 90's had some good mob movies that have really been missed in the 2000's so far! Really haven't seen a great mobster movie in the 2000's and still waiting! Great go to movie if you like true story movies!

(ru) wrote: Not as bad as people say it is. Really undeserving of a 4% on Rotten Tomatoes and a 1 star on Netflix. Yeah, it tries way too hard to be an important gangster movie, but the great thing about that is that it unintentionally pokes holes in gangster movie conventions, showing how shallow a lot of the artifice of those movies are. Also there are some compelling performances here. Dempsey is actually quite fantastic as Meyer Lansky. And Nichols Sadler (an extremely underrated actor, I might add) is great as Mad Dog Coll. And Chris Penn is Chris Penn. It's worth a watch if it's hot out and your brain is fried and you can't handle a movie you have to pay much attention to.
