Sapna S (it) wrote: I'd seen CHECKPOINT, Yoav Shamir's first documentary, ages ago and was very impressed with it. It was my first Israeli film and one which had a 'balanced' p-o-v, not a romantic depiction of Israel, of living in a kibbutz or migrating there or some such. Just an observation of Israeli checkpoints in the Palestinian Authority. So of course I had to see DEFAMATION, the search for the meaning of anti-semitism. I come back with images of extreme right-wing, rich American Jews who need to keep the idea of anti-semitism going, of the gutsy/mad Norman Finkelstein and Uri Avnery who talk about the Holocaust industry and of schoolchildren being indoctrinated about how the world hates them because they are Jews. A teacher says in the film that Israelis perpetuate death and that is why they cannot be a normal people. It brought home to me the argument of how one cannot be a 'real' Hindu if one criticises the fundamentalists-because it then becomes a criticism of the religion. Just as anti-semitism and anti-Zionism are the same, according to the right-wing. This film also brought home to me how Hindu fundamentalists use the same methodologies as their Israeli/Jewish counterparts to lobby/pressure Western democracies and indoctrinate kids. I would recommend this film very much. Just to exercise the brain.

An insight into America's ignorance towards homosexuality, Bruno ridicules the less educated and creates this offensive, disgusting and surprisingly hilarious movie. Hopefully, another unscripted, outrageously crude Baron Cohen movie is not far away.

I liked the ending but as a comedy it wasn't all that funny. 2 out of 4
