(jp) wrote: One of the best John Grisham novels ever to grace the movie lights. Usually when a talent pool of actor and actresses grace the scene this deep, turns out to be a comedy or not no worth the time. John Cusack is outstanding, Gene Hackman is ruthless, Rachel Weisz is a lovely, and Dustin Hoffman is probably the best actor to ever play a southern lawyer. If you love the 12 Angry Men (1957), you will love this.
(de) wrote: "...a fun ride," is correct. The surfing and soundtrack were great even if the plot was dumb. It was just enjoyable watching them surf, even if Kate Bosworth's face pasted on the surfing shots looked like something off of Goldeneye 64. Michelle Rodriguez never disappoints.

(kr) wrote: This film is filled with so much loathing and anger that when something even halfway decent happens you can't believe it, like Gervaise, and then before you know it, real shit goes down and your treading in bitches. Reject what makes you happy, drown in your weaknesses, and drink some booze. Now, it's not entirely bleak, hope springs from time to time, but hope is more of a sinister alien than anything else. Until the finale, where our dreams come true, and THE moment captures a million words.

I loved the acting and the story- I wish more about the dress up insane guy was showed because he was getting to the teacher. LOVED THE MOVIE I RECOMMEND IT TO ANYONE WANTING TO BE A TEACHER.
(au) wrote: Charlize Theron's portrayal of a sad selfish shallow crazily insecure and arrogant early mid-life crisis alcoholic is so amazing that it makes watching a movie about her despicable character quite painful. The utterly shameless product placement is also somewhat painful. There is some humor though, I did laugh on several occasions. Weird. Not much else to say.
