Sean H (jp) wrote: This movie had an opportunity to show the struggle of survival through the eyes of a sisterly dynamic. However, the film was so unrealistic it was painful. Ellen page did essentially all the work while her sister was entirely useless, even when her help was needed most. Despite living in the house for almost two years, they failed to en counter a single winter. And Spoilers, burning the house down was just plain stupid. I get what it represented, but there is no way two practial mountain girls would destroy so many books, maps, tools, and wood. Do not see this movie.

Matthew Y (kr) wrote: Better than I expected, worth the time to watch (if free). A real mix of good acting with some unbearable acting. Decent Direction. Seems like someone's ambitious (but first-time) attempt at making a memorably artistic film.

Darren M (ag) wrote: Top notch creature action with oversized beetles wreaking havoc in a Swiss mine with SciFi number one scream queen chelan simmons doing what she does best,....screamin bloody murder. If I am honest this is not the best creature feature from the team at SciFi movies but its by no means the worst and hey its got Simmons.

Paul C (mx) wrote: Finally seeing this film so many years after I was told it was awful, I can't agree with the people who told me that. Perhaps I love Brooks' self-deprecating humor too much. Paul Chambers, CNN.

Darren R (jp) wrote: Denzel Washington at his very best here in one of his best ever performances. A phemonenal film that really tugs at the heart strings and delivers.

Brandan W (gb) wrote: The mood this movie creates is wonderful. I literally cried for this movie. I'm not someone who cries often, especially not because of movies, but this one moves me. Seeing both side of family love the boy so much. What pain it must be for them to lose him to someone else. Great plot and great cast, too, except for the father.

John G (ag) wrote: Just watched this movie this week in honor of Labor Day. It contains a number of well-executed scenes, and one of Jack Nicholson's best (read: "most bearable") performances. But its seams show -- many sloppily constructed or photographed soundstage sets undercut the production value of its set pieces (Teamster elections, strikes, its imagining of the circumstances of Hoffa's disappearance). Danny DeVito's performance is passable, but his direction is atrocious; highlighting that performance at the expense of getting to know the title character or anything substantial about the events of his life, while also indulging in pretentious edits that only draw attention that little is gained from the non-linear construction of the film other than attention to DeVito.

Billy S (it) wrote: It is quite a good film half way through and then a few things happen that are not believable or do not add up e.g. any angry cop waving a gun in my face, I am not going to ignore them to put my hands up and keep looking for keys. A few other things happen with names and places not flowing and then you are watching the film just on faith.
