Carrie

Carrie may be ostracized, but the shy teen has the ability to move objects with her mind. So when the high school "in crowd" torments her with a sick joke at the prom, she lashes out with devastating -- and deadly -- power.

It's nearing the end of the school year. High school senior Carrie White is a social outcast, largely due to being unwise to the ways of the world based on her upbringing. Her mother, Margaret White, is a religious fanatic, her extreme views primarily targeted against sex, which she believes is a sin. She even believes natural associated processes such as menstruation are a sin, about which she has refused to mention to Carrie. Mrs. White's beliefs were taken to that extreme largely because of her own failed marriage and her husband Ralph long ago having run off with another woman. The only adult authority figure who tries to help Carrie with her life is her phys ed teacher, Miss Collins, who is nonetheless warned not to get too close to go against how Mrs. White chooses to raise Carrie, Mrs. White whose beliefs are well known in the community. An impromptu event that happens among Carrie's phys ed classmates against her leads to her classmates being punished. One of those students, ... . You can read more in Google, Youtube, Wiki

Eric N (ca) wrote: Intelligent action-adventure. Sweet to look at (although I think the washed-out color distances a lot of fans). Engaging, moving, socially relevant. Many discussion-able themes which are among the most fascinating of the movie series (ie: nature vs nurture, social injustice, the Star Trek philosophy of being better than you could be). Not the best example of a Star Trek film but after Insurrection this is a very acceptable way to end the series, even if it is leagues more forlorn than Part VI for the original crew.

Sean T (au) wrote: One of the most captivating indie films I've ever seen - especially impressive for a film shot on just a 3,000 budget.

Alicia K (it) wrote: I recently read the book Even Cowgirls Get the Blues and it was fine, minus all of the existentialism and other unnecessary bits. That said, the movie is refreshing compared to the book. It's much more simple and easy to understand. And it's actually told in a linear fashion. Uma Thurman is perfect as Sissy. The acting in this film is 100% amazing. However, sometime the movie gets a little bit laggy and by the end of it you are pretty ready for it to be over. However, the soundtrack is just awesome. Look out for cool things like the dedication to River at the beginning of the film. That would be River Phoenix. His sister is in this film and he was in Van Sant's similar movie My Own Private Idaho.

Bruce B (au) wrote: This was supposed to be a big hit at the Sundance Festival, not sure why. It was very hard to keep up with as it seemed that scene would change for no reason. Best part of the movie was the end, Special effects were good in last swordfight when guy came out of the ground. But its Asia so it will enter my collection. Its worth the watch, just not as good as the Series Seven Swordsman, I am spoiled I guess

Buggy B (de) wrote: Didn't expect much from this (as I'd never heard of it before) but ended up being pleasantly surprised. This was just different enough from the mainstream rom-coms to intrigue me and had a slowly revealing plot line that kept me guessing. The romance angle was just so-so although I liked what Bobby did with the phone #'s (fate) and Lucy's picture. I also found the actual pick-pocketing scenes pretty cool and the relationship he had with his mother. Peter Facinelli did a great job as Bobby (also writing and producing) and the acting in general is decent. I'm not sure I would go along with this being labelled a romantic comedy however (it's more on the drama side) and the title is pretty terrible - I can't figure out what it means? 12.13"A pickpocket revaluates his life after he learns he will soon become a father "

Alfie D (au) wrote: A great film for all the family but it seems far fetched and doesn't explain how Stuart and Snowbell can talk.
