It was amazing to see how far we have come in animation since the very last Harry Potter movie. Things looked so much more real and everything ran smoothly compared to back in the first Harry Potter movie when we were only just starting to develop CGI into something more.I thought the actors were picked out very well and I loved the way we finally got to see some American Witches and Wizard along with a Muggle for a main character.I can't wait to see what they will do with the rest of the story as there are still 4 more films to come in the series.

Wolfeden S (br) wrote: After seeing the legendary fight scene on youtube, which earns its status for being amazingly awful, I was tempted to check out to see this movie. After seeing it, all I can say is...WOW.The plot follows Kristi Jones, a street fighter played by martial artist Cynthia Rothrock, who tries to avenge her sister's death by the hands of a raping martial artist, who in fact is played by another martial artist named Don Niam. Ok, first of all, how the hell is that a good storyline? Lemme elaborate: Niam's character, who is called Stingray, is an abusive husband with lots of family trouble in his childhood which is reflected now. His wife leaves him and he's not too happy about it. He tries to hunt her down, while raping and assaulting any woman that looks similar to his wife. Niam attempts to make his character seem psychotic, and he succeeds. However, you can't help but laugh when his eyeballs nearly come out of their sockets. Kind of ironic, since he gouges out eyeballs of his victims in the flick and keeps them in a fishbowl. So Stingray rapes and kills Kristi's sister, who she's supporting by giving her money she has earned from street fights. Kristi, with the help of some cop played by John Miller, hunt down Stingray and have a epically awful final battle in a butcher warehouse, just below a hospital. Yeah, go figure. The acting is terrible, although Rothrock isn't so bad, and the screenplay is HORRIBLE. A good example is when Nick DeMarco, Miller, fights with some thugs in a convenience store and shares some bad lines. "Suck my dick!" says the thug."Suck this, jerkoff!" Nick says aiming his huge revolver at the guy. What were the writers thinking?!The fights are coordinated decently for the most part, but some parts are just so cheesy and lame. The final battle gets me every time with the needles shirt ripping and continuous shouting, only to be finished off with even more bad jokes."Keep an eye out for ya, Stingray." Kristi says after Stingray's eyes are gouged."Yeah...SEE YAH!" Nick says in an extremely goofy fashion. The movie has some interesting moments, but are killed by the forever present background music and terrible plot. This movie is more of a comedy than a serious action flick. It's good for the laughs, but don't expect anything amazing or groundbreaking...unless you're looking for groundbreaking achievements in sucking ass.

jonathan b (nl) wrote: Sonatine is the yakuza film equivalent of japanese modern architecture. It's minimal, practical, sparse, beautiful, peculiar, thoughtful, and at times inventive. The narrative is very slow with occasional moments of extreme violence. But it's take on the gangland violence is cold and very matter-of-fact which exacerbates the existential nature of the film without being too overtly heavy handed ( as opposed to doing it with dialogue ). Now Kitano does have an agenda here. He's establishing a style, a very anti-hollywood style. And at times it might not feel entirely genuine ( such as the scene where a yakuza man gets offed and Murakawa ( Kitano ) and his girl friend just stare into the abyss, sans any type of normal reaction, supposedly soo deep in their existential angst that they can't bother to react or are too apathetic to. But despite a few of these moments, the film wins by focusing on the frail, candid and odd beginnings of relationships that Murakawa is building here on what he seems to think is his last mission as a gangster.

It totally hangs on the suttle and sublime role of dougray Scott switching between Dr Jekyll and mr hyde, very good on that last one! i find it weird that the attorney doesnt believe him. without real big happenings the story keeps you on and the disorientated schitzofrenia is well portrayed!I would saw a succesfull turn of the story in present times!

Bryan K (ag) wrote: Way way overrated. What little narrative there is is woefully underdeveloped...it feels as if the director wrote a script after the fact to justify filming a rape movie. How this is a classic is beyond me.
