(mx) wrote: Almost all of Al Pacinos movies are hits, but unfortunately this one isn't so successful. He's let down by a not so great script, and although his acting is good, that of the other characters is often pretty poor. So that would be the second biggest letdown, the other main one being the story itself. So a women did all the gruesome murders, which is very unlikely yet possible, and she is a friend of Jack, who is one of the best detectives around yet he can't figure out she did them. The murderers plan to get away with the murdered is crazy! Placing Jacks DNA and finger prints all over the crime scene somehow and even going to lengths of getting someone to provide the murderer with his semen to put on the victim? How can this ever be properly done, and how can the murderer get someone to provide her with those things yet not have her get caught? So that's just a mess of confusion and stuff that dosent make sense. And the biggest problem, there's no way in hell that all the stuff in the movie can take place in 88 minutes. It's IMPOSABLE. He runs all over the entire city to get to we're he needs to be, just the moving around between important scenes would take more than 88 minutes. From the time the call is first made, to the time his time is up, it's about 88 minutes of movie time, not to mention all the time I between scenes when he's moving to the next location. So that alone makes the movie impossable. As for the mystery part, it really was impossable to figure out, and it had three seperate times that someone said they were the murderer and it turned out to be someone else. Too many twists in the ending minutes, combined with the other things said above, and this movie really has a long list of troubles. Not too great of a film, and one of Al Pacinos worst movies.

They head on a vacation to Hawaii when Darlene meets a handsome guy on the beach who talks her into going on vacation with him to Thailand. Alice reluctantly goes only to support her friend, who has stuck her neck out for her plenty of times. When they arrive in Thailand, the police discover drugs on them and throw them into jail. The girls have no idea how the drugs got there, but they are in international hot water!"We're innocent, so there's nothing to worry about."Jonathan Kaplan, director of Unlawful Entry, Project X, The Accused, Love Field, Bad Girls, and episodes of ER, Law & Order, and Without a Trace, delivers Brokedown Palace. The storyline did have long lulls and some uneven acting, but the ultimately story and epic conclusion was masterful. The acting was fairly good and the cast includes Clair Danes, Kate Beckinsale, Bill Pullman, Lou Diamond Phillips, John Doe, and Aimee Graham."It's a shitty, third world, joke!"Brokedown Palace is a movie I came across on Starz I believe while randomly flicking through the channels. I had never heard of this film with Danes and Beckinsale and thought it may be mildly entertaining. I actually ended up loving this film and even found myself thinking about it a few days later. I strongly recommend this film and it is borderline worth adding to your DVD collection."You didn't sign anything, did you?"Grade: B

And here he does just that, as a reclusive business man, who seeks to prove his innocence, when a newspaper article, implicates him in the disappearance of a union leader. Sally Field, plays the ambitious reporter, for whom the article is a way up. Of course sooner or later, she is convinced of his innocence, and they fall in love. Watch it for Paul Newman, the man spells charisma.

Ben Stiller, who's never been better, plays a forty year old former musician who recently suffered a mental breakdown and spent some time in a mental institution. He flies out to California to look after his brothers house and dog. While there, he makes a connection with his brothers assistant, a college dropout with some issues of her own. The cast is great, especially Rhys Ifans as Stiller's best friend. Baumbach's script is exceptionally well written. This would make a perfect companion piece to his earlier work, the modern masterpiece that is The Squid and the Whale.
(de) wrote: 100618: I own, and I've read, every issue of Jonah Hex since the premier of his own self-titled comic back in the 70s. This movie came out at an odd time in my life and perhaps that timing affected my opinion. I really like how Brolin portrayed Hex, in his mannerisms and speech. I found the make up well done and he appeared as I would expect Hex to appear. I anticipated the scar to look stupid and not consistent with the comics but no, it was right on. It's been awhile since Hex had so much...paranormal ability (Vertigo) and in a way I found that aspect of him fun. His ability to speak to the dead added a bit more to a character I've always embraced...but, this film did not suck me in the way I had hoped. I'm always desperate for Westerns and I thought Jonah Hex would be a sure fire winner. It was not. I walk out kind of ho hum. It's got lots of action. Neat characters. Neat weapons. It's a Western. How could it be wrong? Perhaps it was the timing after all. I'm going to have to see it again but I don't think it will be in the theatres long. I hope the DVD has a lot of extras. Oh yeah, Lilah should've been scarred up. Beautiful, but scarred up.
