Noah20 D (gb) wrote: Although I heavily enjoyed this film, the series just isn't the same anymore. I feel that they are relying more on old formulas of horror rather than being fresh and more intriguing.

Tommy H (mx) wrote: My least favorite Kubrick film. Much too grim and seeing a pretty girl sing didn't dispel that. The ending seemed like a cheap way out of a dark place -- something I'd expect from modern directors but not Kubrick. The scenes in the trenches were great and even the courtroom scenes were good, but the movie gives you a thirst for justice and not only does it not deliver justice the ending erases the drama and the anti-war sentiment from your mind as if everything up to that point was meaningless because the narrative shifted to the girl. What is the point of the film? That nothing matters because grief doesn't last forever? I know Kubrick has a dark sense of storytelling but Paths of Glory was a little much.
Maarten V (kr) wrote: Classic movies don't always work for everyone, and this one unfortunately didn't work for me. I couldn't relate to the topic, I couldn't relate to the protagonist, and I couldn't relate to the pace of this film. Maybe I'll watch it again later, and see whether I missed something.
Nate W (ca) wrote: "Dark Victory" is a tender, bittersweet tragedy about a young woman with an inoperable brain tumor, given less than a year to live. Bette Davis gives a graceful, refined performance as the unfortunate woman, and beautifully evokes the conflict of emotions that plague her character. Other compelling turns come courtesy of George Brent and Humphrey Bogart, whose affections threaten to tear Davis' heart in two before she expires.
David M (ru) wrote: People seem to have strong reactions to this film, for and against: I guess Bill Murray is the cinematic equivalent of stinky cheese. I loved it, and lost myself completely in its dream-like quality.
