Its without doubt, Mani Ratnam is one of the greatest directors of India in the league of incomparable like Satyajit Ray, Bimal Roy, Raj Kapoor, Shyam Benegal, and Hrishikesh Mukherjee. Man who wrote screenplay of most of all his movies, Mani Ratnam is known for beautiful films with substance, innovative camera angles, Illyaraja and AR Rahman??s music companionship, brilliantly photographed songs, and working with best talents available in industry at that time.Bombay is still on the top of my Mani Ratnams movie list. The film is centred on events, particularly during the period of December 1992 to January 1993 in India, and the controversy surrounding the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya. Increased religious tensions in the city of Bombay (now Mumbai) led to the Bombay Riots. Shekhar (Arvind Swamy) is the son of traditional Hindu parents. He is studying journalism in Bombay and returns to his village where he comes across Shaila Bano, (Manisha Koirala), a Muslim schoolgirl. The story revolves around their relationship in the midst of religious tension.Rahmans polished music is plus point of this movie.

Ethan M (es) wrote: Classic. One of the best action movies of all time. It is a tad cheeses but this is the 70s so we are lucky that we didn't get more cheese. Considering the insanely low budget of the film, you have to give it more credit. Keep in mind, this was made in the 70s, This movie was original and refreshing. It still stands tall today. Mel Gibson's best role. If you aren't a fan of impracticality in movies I would suggest that you only view this film and none of its spawns.
