Jose Miguel G (ag) wrote: Jim Jarmusch's newest flick may seem empty and pointless at first, but looking at it more closely, its warm and simplistic feelings are the strongest elements from a story that seems to pay tribute to a daily-basis-routine, with appealing characters and a growing sense of poetic affection.

Joseph M (mx) wrote: A good continuation of the series. This one expands the mythology and gives the franchise one the better stories of the films. Great action and comedy.

Rob A (nl) wrote: Initial review on this film is so off target. Responsibility clashes with freedom? Alternatve narrative? Pfffttt. Excellent film which artfully examines a couple's making the serious choice regarding keeping or letting go of their unborn child. The 'finding of the dog' tale and the 'finding of the phone' tale are fascinating plots which examine the mixed feelings. Great that the film ends without us actually knowing what choice they make. Great that with having made either choice, they are still together.

JoAnne K (ag) wrote: I had no idea what I was I was about to watch, when I settled down with this movie. To be honest, the first five minutes of this movie made me grab the remote control, so I could be ready to turn it off..if it got any worse, but it slowly revealed and interesting stylist approach to the underground vampirism scene in London. If you can get past the 'home made' movie feel, you'll enjoy it as a vampire movie fan or a goth music lover..other than that, you might want to give this one a miss.

Uditha D (de) wrote: This is undoubtedly the best cinematic treatment of the apartheid (or for that matter, racism in general) I have ever watched until now. I believe Cry Freedom's biggest strength lies in none other than its top notch array of performances, especially its main two heroes - Kevin Kline as liberal Donald Woods, and of course Denzel Washington in a career-defining role as Steve Biko. The film as a whole was quite convincing, although along a certain point I did feel as though it seemed to dragged on endlessly. However, I simply couldn't deny the charm the film had, especially in its final half, where Donald Woods puts into action a remarkably planned (and shot), suspense-filled escape plan with his family. Its final message - as a treatise against the stifling brutality of apartheid - was effectively shown, especially by Washington's commendable performance as Biko. His performance was such that even though he dies before the second half of the film, I felt as though he was actually present thereafter, right towards the ending. In spite of this, however, as a final balance, I felt that the ending had a chronological problem - why put that scene of a protest gunned down horrifyingly by government agents at the end Overall, however, with Kline and Washington, Cry Freedom ultimately became an uplifting, even irresistible, drama that I think should be watched by all those opposed to racism, inequality, injustice, and police-states.

Aj V (fr) wrote: This movie has been remade so many times, I wasn't surprised by anything that happened in this one, the original. It didn't really interest me anymore, except that some of the scenes were pretty funny. And the acting is good.
