(es) wrote: "2LDK" is an uneven Japanese horror comedy about 2 aspiring actresses, one young and virginal and the other desperate to snag a star role before it's too late, who are forced to share an apartment while competing for the same role in the movie "Gangsters' Wives." The film may be divided into 2 parts. The first arc is dialogue-driven and showcases the catty ways in which these two women think about and speak to one another. This half is funny. The second half features a brutal brawl between the two provoked by their mutual interest in Takuya, a man whom we never see. The action is over-the-top and involves swords, chainsaws, bathroom cleaner and toilet tank lids, just to name a few weapons. The mayhem is amusing at times, but the actresses are not martial artists and some of the sequences are not well-staged and do not come off well at all. The "surprise" ending can be seen from the opening sequences. In short, it's worth watching, but it's not as imaginative as some reviewers would lead one to believe.

(au) wrote: yeah, ok alan rickman, you wanted to be a voice actor. is that why there are so many shots with the boom mic in frame?
(it) wrote: "Chained Heat" is one of those classic women in prison movies from the early eighties. Was kind of fun to resee this not so well structured movie. Throughout half of the movie you see the boom microphone.... That is hilarious. Linda Blair is Carol, a girl that get sentenced to 18 months in prison for an accidently killing. In prison she need to learn how to survive from the guards, the warden and the inmates. Of course there are drugs, rape, killings, assaults and lesbian love. An exploitation film with a touch of blaxploitation to it.What is interesting is that there is quite a few reasonably known names in this B-movie. Henry Silva, John Vernon, Linda Blair, Stella Stevens, Sybil Danning and Tamara Dobson. Then again, most of them have done mostly B-movies in their careers. "Chained Heat" is a pure B-movie and there is nothing wrong with that. "Chained Heat" is not trying to be something else either. It took me back to the days of VHS tapes and the thrill of getting your hands on a movie such as "Chained Heat". The good old days......

The same way Night Of The Living Dead did with zombie flicks. Yeah, this does borrow from other films/directors too I guess, notably Bava and Hitchcock, but doesn't run into cliche territory like many slashers after this as Silent Night Bloody Night merely blends those influences together into one mighty blend. The plot is somewhat complex and contains a bunch of twists that I found kind of hard to follow. The film begins in 1920 where we are introduced to a Wilfred Butler just before his death. His only death wish was for his family Mansion to be restored and kept in the condition he left it. This looked really good and had me convinced it was the 1920's, despite the occasional narration.A very ambitious dark and twisted tale that could very well have set the standard for almost every slasher flick that followed. His only death wish was for his family Mansion to be restored and kept in the condition he left it. This looked really good and had me convinced it was the 1920's, despite the occasional narration. The plot really does kick off when a mental patient who claims to be part of the Butler family, the troubled, twisted, but wealthy New England family escapes from an asylum. Oh it is only days before christmas too. In New England somewhere the grandson of Wilfred Buttler has come to town to sell the butler Mansion and of course the escaped mental patient has come by to visit. By hiding upstairs he terrorizes the townspeople by calling them and then talking in a strange voice over the phone..hehe (familiar hey?). There is a little bit of narration during the film. Especially the beginning and end. The narrator Diane Adams is the daughter of the town sheriff, who like a lot of the other townspeople are connected to the Butler family in one way or another. There is a lot more to do with the plot, but I won't go into it too much. The way these people are connected is just twisted. Silent Night Bloody Night, is much much more than a film about an escaped mental patient terrorizing people. The movie was very well scripted and will please most people into twisted 70's slasher flicks.

Muriel shows that its perception that needs to change, not just self-loathing.5 out of 5 coconut cocktails
