Theatrical version on Dvd, September 13, 2013). Call it a guilty pleasure or call it a movie that aim below the belt and hits the mark every time but there's no denying that you won't ever be able to forget it. The dialogue is a blast to quote and it is a lot of fun to find people who will get your obscure references to Junior Bruce or any of the other characters in the film. It's fun to re-watch over and over to catch the legitimately good stuff while pre-writing your own jokes so you can make your friends laugh. What else can I say about this movie? You go in expecting trash and you get it in spades. There's some real tension there and to give the film credit, it sticks to its guns, never shying away from the violence or turning its back at the audience at last second and judging them for having a good time. There are legitimately good things about it too, like a scene where one of the cars is making a 4-point turn, unsuspecting that there is a land mine inches away from one of the rear tires. It doesn't hurt that there's a decent amount of nudity, some hilarious scenes where we really get to see how twisted this world has become and a pretty good fight scene between Machine Gun Joe and Frankenstein. You'll tell them about the hammy speeches, the incredibly dated look that screams 70's despite being set in the future. They willingly sacrifice themselves, or others to give their favorite racers a chance to score some big points. You'll delight in seeing their shocked expression as you explain to them that in this world the racers have become so popular that they have huge fan clubs but that these fan clubs are actually more like cults. People will sincerely ask you "How can you like this?" and that's going to be your cue to tell them all about the little details that you like. Part of the joy too is that so many people will dismiss it as trash. That's every red-blooded male's dream come true, and you'd be surprised how many women would love to succumb to their road rage as well! That's why the movie is so much fun to watch. Humans have always been fascinated by violence and things that go fast, so why not put the two together? And honestly, who hasn't thought, if only for a second of mowing down those annoying pedestrians while behind the wheel? Imagine yourself as you're racing down the road, a hot babe at your side and your windshield covered with the entrails of those pesky jaywalkers. First of all, the premise itself is. The film is the definition of a cult classic. It's exactly what it wants to be and nothing else. It's violent, it's tasteless. The movie is called "Death Race 2000" for goodness' sake. How can you be offended by this when two scenes later a man gleefully cheers as his friend is reduced to a red streak on the pavement because he couldn't get out of the way of Machine Gun Joe's car? Everyone working on the film knew they weren't making high art and they knew that most people would call the very idea of a film where people get run over for sport offensive. You would see the Nazi racer Matilda the Hun dish out lines about "the final solution" and about being a member of the "master race" and you would be offended; but not here. If the movie was well made, with great performances, top-notch special effects and custom-built, state-of-the-art racing cars, it would be a totally different experience. The weird thing though is that somehow those mediocre elements work to the film's advantage. The shoddy production frequently pulls you out of the story, so as cinema, it often falls flat on its face. The cars themselves are colourful and distinct from each other but they look really cheesy and once again, look like the doodles of a teenager brought to life. When cars and bombs blow up, the explosions look great (possibly because it's one of the cheapest and most difficult special effects to screw up) but the mate paintings seen at the beginning of the film literally look like they were made by a high-schooler with pencil crayons. Similarly, the special effects are often pretty laughable. While there are some actors that aren't terrible, some of the stars (notably Stallone and Carradine) have gone on to become big names but seeing them here, they show little charisma or flair in their performances. The acting, for example is pretty stiff. It is incredibly hard to clearly define the movie as either good or bad. They manage to set up one of their agents as Frankenstein's navigator, but the driver has plans of his own and they certainly don't include him being captured or him losing the race. President (who is said to be a good friend of Frankenstein's) to permanently abolish the race. On the sidelines, a resistance group who opposes the barbaric race plans on sabotaging the competition by capturing Frankenstein and forcing Mr. Let the carnage begin! Fan-favorite Frankenstein (David Carradine) is setting himself up for his third win, while his arch-rival, Machine Gun Joe Viterbo (Silvester Stallone) rages. To give that extra edge of cruelty, women in every category are worth an additional 10 points. Anyone between 40 and seniority are worth 40 apiece and the big lot, the old people are worth a whopping 100 points. People between that age and 40 are worth a measly 20. Children under 12 are worth 70 points. Racing across the country, the racers rack up points by arriving to the 3 checkpoints as fast as possible (which is where the navigators come in) and by running over anyone in their way. The race itself is between 5 racers, each of which are assisted by their navigator and pit crew. The country is kept entertained by the Annual Transcontinental Road Race, a symbol of the country's "modern values and way of life" and it also happens to show off the country's bloodlust and virility to the rest of the world, particularly the French. President (Sandy McCallum). At some point, the states became provinces and were eventually re-united under the country's leader-for-life Mr. In the far flung future of the year 2000(!), the United States' economy has been completely ruined. Here's the story. It's a low-budget, tasteless, violent movie that isn't particularly well acted but it's exactly what you want to see when you pop this sucker in. "Death Race 2000" delivers exactly what it promises

It's predictable in a good way as you would expect from a movie like this. Great performance from John Cusack and a great soundtrack makes this well worth watching, even if the ending is utterly predictable. A touching story about adoption and how cruel people can be

to indie, mumblecore, whatever. . . Both end up drifting apart, but it's just too boring to watch. This is about a couple who are boring and they decide to do something different. The most interesting, but sad part of this is the cat

Are you kidding? This is a great film!

. I can't imagine that people who saw it on the big screen managed to stay awake for a two-hour trip to nowhere. I just watched it on cable. It could have been condensed it into a 5-minute film school project. Where the hell was the warmth? The emperor has no clothes, and Carol has no story. Otherwise, how could it limp along like that and miss the mark so badly? If you're the filmmakers, don't you really want your audience to be a little ignited or drawn in by the "forbidden relationship", the sexual tension and the eventual surrender to the passion? This movie was so pedantic. I think this film was made by straight people who don't understand what it is to be gay. They told me stories of how they had to hide their relationships from the straight establishment, but they connected with other women with whom they had mutual attractions. The only way things would have lumbered on for so long without any sexual connection would have been if one of them had a crush on a straight woman who was clueless about her friend's feelings and proclivities. But I guarantee you that none of them went through that kind of draggy relationship day after day, week after week without ever letting their feelings surface. The older ones were sexually awakened during that straight-laced, suppressed era of the '50s. I wanted to kick her in the teeth and say, "Tune in or get the hell out!!!" In the mid-1960s through the early '70s I had a circle of friends in the Los Angeles area who happened to be lesbians. more like catatonic. . . Except she wasn't even pouty enough. Otherwise she was pouting her way through so much of the film. The only time she had any blood running through her veins was when she was rejecting male-female relationships. Therese was flat and dull and expressionless for the majority of the time she was with Carol. OMG, how did this film get 4+ stars from so many reviewers? It was the S-L-O-W-E-S-T, most dragged- out, lifeless, Qi-less indulgence I have ever seen!!! I kept waiting for it to pick up, but it NEVER did!!! It was obvious and tedious

let's stop this search party and forget this film even happened. what a waste of time for the actors who's careers are blooming and me as a viewer. then I saw for myself this embarrassing comedy that made me chuckle once. I was like hey this looks awesome I like the actors from the show. I discovered this shit show on the movie channels. then I saw it was released in may then straight to DVD in July. not to mention at first I didn't understand why I hadn't seen any ads for this films theatrical release. that's not enough to make this poorly written and directed comedy worth a single star. a half star for one funny scene and I like the actors from silicone valley. terrible

Toni Collete offers a powerful performance in a movie that, for me, helped rub away a bit of the patina of cynicism that has crystallized across the surface of my heart, revealing a glimmer of hope for our human race. This movie moved me in a way that hasn't happened in a very long time, and I would very much recommend it
