Falling in place with all the other lackluster and downright tedious spoofs Dance Flick had a chuckle or two but most of the gross out humor and one liners were so reused that the house fly buzzing around the room was more entertaining than this disappointing Wayans brother attempt at comedy.
Jason D (br) wrote: Though Death Trance was considered a jumbled mess compared to director Yji Shimomura's previous Asian masterpiece Versus, I couldn't help but think how the storytelling and original plotlines far exceeded anything that is coming out of America. In Death Trance, a samurai warrior has infiltrated a monk monastery which holds the coffin of the Goddess of Destruction and steals the coffin, taking out everyone in his path. One lone monk now tries to track down the coffin, as does another man (who carries a bazooka!). There's also a fallen angel who provides guidance here and there. Yeah, the plot may seem jumbled and all over the place, but as the film moves along, you start to grasp the concepts it throws at you nearly 100 mph every few minutes. The action and imagery were a lot of fun to watch and the film builds up to an open-ended climax that I wish was just resolved there rather than leaving it in suspense for a potential sequel. All in all, not a bad film, but it pales in comparison to Versus.

Only held together by Spader in who must have had some pretty hefty bills to pay that month......if you look closely into his eyes, you can almost sense his embarrassment. All of this aside, it was a surprisingly watchable movie.

Joel A (de) wrote: A True Foreign Cinematic Masterpiece!!! The film was extraodinary there is but 20 lines in this film and that would be including Voice Over, but it speaks so well with no words. It is more or less a Silent Film with sounds effects, and mood music, but it bizarely quite compelling, the actors are clearly non professional but completely convincing and authentic. The film although rather repeditive in aspects it just goes to show the hardness and mudanity of life at times. The director said he wanted to show the family as ants battling the elements of nature, and that sums up the story rather well. Quite a powerful and profound film, go into this film with no expectations, it is what it is and just watch this family go on this journey, a truly unique cinema experience it'll really open your eyes to their fascinating culture a must see....
Joel A (ag) wrote: A very low key poorly adapted thriller about a desperate mother re-connecting with her vicious, cruel & jealous grandmother. The film is genuinely tense but moves so slow in the middle it's hard to keep interest. The acting is appalling but the story does keep you guessing due to the strangeness of the characters. Quite creepy in many scenes but a good attempt but no Shinning.
