Grant S (br) wrote: Interesting drama. The true story of how two men killed a policeman in California in the early-1960s, and what happened afterwards. Starts off as a crime drama and ends as legal/courtroom drama.Movie starts slowly as it sets the scene and provides some background to the characters. Maybe too slowly and with too much detail. Some things just feel overdone.Once the murder occurs, however, that's when things get interesting. The legal side, especially, is quite eye-opening and demonstrates how easily the US judicial system can be manipulated and exploited by criminals.Performances are mostly so-so. James Woods is probably the best of the lot, putting in a solid performance as one of the criminals. John Savage is pretty flat in his role and Franklyn Seales is hammy.

Grant S (ru) wrote: Fun and funny vampire movie from acclaimed director Roman Polanski.Plot is reasonably basic, and not entirely watertight. However, this is more than made up for by the humour of the plot. While Polanski crafts a feeling of foreboding, dread and fear, your vampire staples, he balances this with some great comedy. The stark contrast between the usual vampire atmosphere and the humour makes the comedy even better. At the forefront of this comedy is Polanski himself, as the bumbling assistant. It is most physical comedy and often feels Chaplinesque. Polanksi enhances this by speeding up the frames during some of the sequences, giving a silent movie feel to these scenes.Jack MacGowran is also great as the Albert Einstein-lookalike Professor. Nice twist in the plot towards the end too.

David M (mx) wrote: Although this film is sixty years old, it was shot in such vibrant color (and the setting, Rio during Carnivale, is such a constant and pulsating backdrop), this work has aged pretty well. In addition to its visual beauty, I found many touching human themes to appreciate and enjoy.

Mr N (de) wrote: Good but not great. Edge of Darkness is pretty cliche and boring at times. But Mel Gibson's performance, well written dialogue and story is enough to be keep you engrossed.

Jack C (ru) wrote: Once Were Warriors is a hard-hitting, unforgiving New Zealand drama that exposes the reality of domestic violence in all its horror. This film goes far beyond cooking eggs and sticks with any viewer for weeks.

Ryan P (nl) wrote: This movie is unbelievably adorable. A cute romantic comedy about Indian immigrants to France, hoping to start a new life, it delves into the world of haute cuisine, the identity of those torn between cultures and the power of family. The characters are endearing and a pleasure to be around, especially Helen Mirren as Madame Mallory. But pretty much everyone here is super likable. And that's kind of a problem. This movie is saccharine and cute (as to be expected from an Oprah/Spielberg production) and that may be a bit off putting for some. At a point, things wrap up a bit too neatly. But overall, worth a watch.
