Laura M (de) wrote: SEVE: The Movie is a fantastic tribute to golf and to the golf legend that it's named for. I really loved getting the background behind Seve's passion and success, especially the huge role that his family played in his life. It was fun to watch the interactions between his brothers, and his father and mother. The way that he was supported and encouraged by his brothers who really saw something in him was so cool. The film was very well-done and I liked the way it included real clips of Seve playing golf and giving interviews throughout. Also, I have to hand it to the actor playing Seve who did a great job with that iconic golf swing. I found the blend of acted flashbacks and real-life footage of Seve Ballesteros to be a great storytelling method for SEVE: The Movie. It was really cool to see Seve's passion take the forefront to all of his adventures. From humble beginnings, a true and dedicated pro golfer was born, and it was a privilege to hear his story through this film. Definitely an inspiring tear-jerker.

Danny R (au) wrote: A dazzling, groundbreaking sci-fi adventure from Walt Disney Pictures. It concerns a computer genius and ex-employee of the ENCOM corporation named Kevin Flynn, played wonderfully by Jeff Bridges who tries hacks into the mainframe of that corporation, he is seeking evidence to prove that his work was stolen by a former colleague, Ed Dillinger, superbly played by the sinister David Warner. He is detected by the power-hungry Master Control Programed and is beamed into another dimension, a cyberworld inside the computer mainframe itself; there he must fight to survive against computer's gladiators on a deadly game grid, and on the high-velocity "Light Cycles" in races to the death. But Tron, played terrifically by Bruce Boxleitner is a specialized security program that will help Flynn fight the MCP and set him free from that electoric world. Astute direction by Steven Lisberger and wonderful supporting performances by Cindy Morgan, Barnard Hughes and San Shor. This film is a milestone in the history of computer animation, it's spectacular visual effects and early CGI is still amazing, It no wonder that the minds behind Tron went on to form the great Pixar Animation Studio. An original audacious piece of genre entertainment. Highly Recommended. Special Note: The sequel "Tron Legacy" starring Jeff Bridges reprising his role of Kevin Flynn 28 years later will be released in December 2010.

I'd like to think this is a movie ripe for re-evaluation, if only I could see it on the big screen. NuArt? Cinefamily? New Beverly? LACMA? Cinematheque? Anyone?
David F (ag) wrote: The compilation features that Disney produced between BAMBI and CINDERELLA are all curate's eggs, and MELODY TIME is no exception. For me, the best piece here is "Bumble Boogie", which is just aurally and visually a treat from start to finish. I've always enjoyed the chocolate box feel of "Once Upon a Wintertime" and it still is just as sweet as it was when I first saw it. "Little Toot" is just as endearing as he always was. "Pecos Bill" is still a great centrepiece, although I think I enjoyed it more as a child than I did now. "Blame it on the Samba" has some amazing moments, although I enjoy the pure animation bits more than the bits where we have to endure Ethel Smith and her organ - although her playing is phenomenal. "The Legend of Johnny Appleseed", a big favourite of many people it seems from some of the reading I've done about the film, was hit and miss for me. "Trees" I found rather dull.It occurred to me again how haphazardly these features were compiled, with little theme to link together each of the films. How I wish that Disney had, at least, allowed one of these features to be centered around great American heroes and stories: a film featuring "Johnny Appleseed", "Pecos Bill", "Ichabod", "Casey at the Bat" and "The Martins and the Coys" might have been great together in one film with some other shorts that linked up with that theme. Besides being more coherent, the film might have killed at the box office in a wartime or post-war climate.
