(gb) wrote: I just saw the movie, by god its AWFUL, boring premise, plot holes. I didn't feel anything for the characters eaten by the shark, just one boring death after another -.-in 4 words: A loooooooooooooooong BORING film.Just stick to Jaws :)
(fr) wrote: The director of REC and REC2 weaves a chilling and suspenseful tale of a young couple lured to a desolate apartment building with sinister intent by it's twisted landlord.

(au) wrote: This movie has alot going for it, but it just isn't executed well enough to make it anything better than mediocre. The first and foremost strength of the film is its unique setting and blending of genres. Its like 'Blade 2' meets 'Jack the Ripper'. Introducing a vampire storyline into Victorian style society isn't neccisarily original, but it has a very original feel about it. The acting isn't terrible, but not terribly good either. My main gripe is that just not enough is going on, and the interesting elements are stretched out too far, dissipating their effect. It is well filmed from a technical standpoint, and brings an interesting take to the vampire film, but unfortunatly, the story was largely boring.
(es) wrote: Any believability this film might have had goes right down the drain the first time you see Angelina run. The premise is poor, the acting is mediocre, and even though Angelina Jolie has the perfect build for recreating the video game character, her performance is lacking. Lara Croft Tomb Raider is only for avid fans of the video game, and those who can't get enough of Angelina Jolie. Even with some of its entertaining moments, you probably won't find yourself enjoying this film.

(ag) wrote: Dersu Uzala is without a doubt one of the best russian films I have seen. It is a film that haunts me still. It is a story of a lone hunter that befriends some explorers and guides them through the wilderness of Siberia. The cinematography is spectacular (Kurosawa--need I say more?) and the story is so well told. The story is both obvious and subtle at the same time. The old man guides them and they survive. Also the old man represents the ways of the hills--even represents the hills and wilderness itself--and we see how he fails to fit in with civilization and progress. It is a story of great triumph and great sorrow. It it does not move you, then you are truly dead inside.

(ru) wrote: Although it does not stand up to the genre, The Way Way Back is a fine coming-of-age story that manages to deliver some laughs and has a satisfactory ending - thanks largely to the acting prowess of its talented cast.
(mx) wrote: WHAT I LIKED: 'The Lady in the Van' is certainly a creative cinematic adaptation of Alan Bennett's story, but it's this humble, humorous foundation that's by far the winning part of the formula here. Yes the story we find ourselves going on is one of sheer delight with plenty of brilliant characterisation and a foot in reality that grounds the whole thing rather excellently. In fact, in some ways it's as much a narrative about the very concept of writing as it is a character study, and those aspects naturally complement each other. However, credit must equally be given to the way in which all of that is brought to life, as plenty of great cinematic choices are made, and brilliantly captivating performances are ever present from Maggie Smith and Alex Jennings.WHAT I DIDN'T LIKE: It is a simple concept so don't expect anything truly ground-breaking.VERDICT: A lovely, humble film that doesn't try to be too much, and thankfully succeeds in building on Alan Bennett's genious work.
