Chronicle of a Disappearance

Chronicle of a Disappearance unfolds in a series of seemingly unconnected cinematic tableaux, each of them focused on incidents or characters which seldom reappear later in the film. Among the many unrelated scenes, there is a Palestinian actress struggling to find an apartment in West Jerusalem, the owner of the Holy Land souvenir shop preparing merchandise for incoming Japanese tourists, a group of old women gossiping about their relatives, and an Israeli police van which screeches to a halt so several heavily armed soldiers can get off the car and urinate.

Eoin F (ca) wrote: Wow! This was awesome. Scott Adkins deserves to bo an A-List action star. I've never seen anyone move like that. So refreshing to see an action movie where you can actually see what's going on. Michael Jai White is also a badass. If you're an action fan I'd pick this up, me? I'm more into romantic comedies as you've probably worked out by now.

John W (fr) wrote: Ok, not a great movie, but a fun movie and it does have a cool cast. Robert Wagner, Geoffrey Lewis, Tom Bosley (as an awesome Jewish rabbi no less!), and Casper Van Dien. I like watching all of them act and for some reason, I'm a big fan of Van Dien's movies. He's made a career out of repeating his character from Starship Troopers (which, come on, was a kick ass movie) but somehow it doesn't get stale.

Scott W (ca) wrote: A later Fellini pure gem. For me this signified a great expression of Fellini's ability to be free on film, to delve and dabble into most of his fantasies, engaging in past traditions and exploring themin a new and austere way. Thankfully more gems were yet to come.

Dev S (es) wrote: This movie is pure magic. It gets better with each viewing. The film's overarching theme is not entirely new. In recent memory, '3 Idiots' drove home a similar message. However, 'Tamasha' stands out primarily for its approach to a sensitive issue. It makes us believe that each one of us should live our dreams. While '3 Idiots' was peppered with positivity, 'Tamasha' attacks the viewer with a kind of intensity that only Imtiaz Ali can build up. The film shows us what can go wrong with bottling up our ambitions. And to achieve that effect, there's Ranbir Kapoor. While Deepika Padukone's performance is nothing short of extraordinary, it's Ranbir Kapoor who the movie follows. And of course he delivers. His Ved Vardan Sahni grows on the viewer, and it's his character's trajectory, so beautifully portrayed by Ranbir, that the viewer takes from the movie. In my entirely unimportant opinion, Ranbir truly deserved awards for his performance, and it was disappointing that he didn't win any. In any case, watch this movie. And if you don't like it, watch it again. It will grow on you.
