Churchill

A ticking-clock thriller following Winston Churchill in the 24 hours before D-Day.

June 1944. Allied Forces stand on the brink: a massive army is secretly assembled on the south coast of Britain, poised to re-take Nazi-occupied Europe. One man stands in their way: Winston Churchill. Behind the iconic figure and rousing speeches: a man who has faced political ridicule, military failure and a speech impediment. An impulsive, sometimes bullying personality - fearful, obsessive and hurting. Fearful of repeating, on his disastrous command, the mass slaughter of 1915, when hundreds of thousands of young men were cut down on the beaches of Gallipoli. Obsessed with fulfilling historical greatness: his destiny. Exhausted by years of war and plagued by depression, Churchill is a shadow of the hero who has resisted Hitler's Blitzkrieg. Should the D-Day landings fail, he is terrified he'll be remembered as an architect of carnage. Political opponents sharpen their knives. General Eisenhower and Field Marshal Montgomery are increasingly frustrated by Churchill's attempts to stop... . You can read more in Google, Youtube, Wiki

Raymond N (nl) wrote: Excellent movie. Has a lot of relationship plits and sub plots all under the backdrop of civil war.

Mike M (es) wrote: An intriguing thing: a thwarted sex comedy that morphs into something else entirely. The genre-warping points to a film both critical of, and still somewhat in thrall to, the notion of what a "real man" might be; it's perhaps a pity the final act should arm Kamal with such a bluntly symbolic shotgun. The imagery elsewhere is richer for its simplicity, like the mini-ballet played out between male and female fingers on a bus handrail. There are rough edges here, but Usmonov is a filmmaker worth persisting with.

Cathleen K (fr) wrote: Decent heist film with an ending that just felt contrived and boring.

Aaron C (fr) wrote: the dialogues are fascinating, and informative. every inquisitive child's dream parent (and any nurturing parent's dream daughter) -- though the dinner banter between the comandante and his 3-5 lady guests were hard to decipher for their varied political subtexts :)

William T (gb) wrote: Interesting story, visually stunning with some great acting. Felt like I was watching the spanish "Amelie".

Sylvester K (ru) wrote: Dancer in the Dark is one of the most painful films I had to endure. As the final Dogme film von Trier has directed, it is by far the weirdest and the most depressing. It is a musical drama starring Bjork, Catherine Deneuve and David Morse about the corruption of the justice system, music and joie de vivre. A must see but seeing it once would be enough really.

Grant S (nl) wrote: Not that great. Too contrived, too many holes in the plot. Even great actors like Johnny Depp and Christoopher Walken can't save this.To its credit though, it is short and does keep moving at a brisk pace, so at least it isn't dull.

Edgar C (ca) wrote: Shameful debut for a popular Hollywood star, anyone?27/100

George R (au) wrote: Every bit as lame as the title suggests. Avoid!

Brandon T (es) wrote: Maybe it was good for the time? Bored me

Sam E (es) wrote: Deathtrap was fun to say the least. Alongside the silly, but daunting music and Michael Cane's terrific performance, the movie was a roller coaster ride of twists and turns. Plus, the movie mimicked a play's atmosphere, only taking place in one or two rooms the entire time.

Brett B (ag) wrote: One of the rare non-anthology offerings from Amicus, this one is pretty much a bore, despite the admirably out-there premise. Still, watching genre veterans like Lom, Magee, and Cushing chew a little scenery is never a bad thing; too bad they're stuck in such a forgettable film.

Joe T (ag) wrote: Most overrated movie I have ever seen.Just terrible.Crap story, crap acting, crap soundtrack.......just crap. What a disappointment!
