Giovanni M (it) wrote: Bizarre, politically challenged (JFK as a Republican?), and obnoxiously unfunny, David Zucker has struggled with his dated brand of slapstick absurdities since the Naked Gun franchise ended but here he is just pathetic. Yes, you hate Michael Moore we get it. It's not worth making an entire movie over. An unfunny comedy is one of cinema's greatest sins and An American Carol accomplishes being the first comedy not even make me smile once. ONCE. Jack and Jill make me chuckle at Al Pacino and Movie 43 got a smile out of the phrase "weird pubes" but this... this movie gave me nothing. This is without a doubt the worst comedy I've ever seen in my entire life. It's so shockingly inept that it's downright pathetic. At least Movie 43 offended me, An American Carol is downright sad. You feel bad for everyone involved.
P M (ag) wrote: Predictable and weak story bolstered by the immensely likable lead ladies, Adams and McDormand. Lee Pace (Pushing Daisies) is also enjoyable as one of the trio of wooers of Adams' character. Enjoyable enough, though much of it will be forgotten within days after seeing.
Constantine H (ag) wrote: Clunky satire with too briefly seen characters. At least Daryl Hannah gets to show both her eyes.

Eric H (de) wrote: Classic 80's action movie with descent acting. It is predictable as most action movies are, but if you like that kind of entertainment then First Blood surely satisfies. Stallone doesn't say much, which aids to his role as a disturbed army veteran, and the movie is fairly quick, which leaves little time for drawn out scenes. The movie has a fair amount of violence and blood display which should be taken into discretion. It is also currently adding a 4th sequel due to its past success in satisfying fans of this genre of movies. Fans of Chuck Norris and the Die Hard sequels will surely enjoy this flick. Overall, it delivers its share of entertainment and serves as a great Sunday afternoon movie.
Andrew T (us) wrote: A truly terrible movie. Bright spot, if any, were a couple tit flashes and Gormy... other than that it sucked. I give it half a star because it exists. Some lessons must have been learned.
Jo D (es) wrote: Warped relationship between mother (Gladys Cooper) and daughter (Bette Davis). Great love story between Charlotte & Jerry when they were on the cruise, unfortunately Jerry was married. Davis is amazing in her role as Charlotte/Carlotta Vale. I found the conversation between Charlotte & Jerry in the final scene disturbing and Charlotte & Tina's relationship reflective of the relationship between Charlotte's mother and her. Charlotte needs Tina to feel better about herself but also has been helping Jerry's daughter TIna so she won't have to cut ties to Jerry and says a line or 2 that is rather disturbing, along the lines that she pretends Tina is her & Jerry's child. Jerry was correct in the library in the final scene when he said Charlotte needed to move on and Tina was holding her back from having a normal life filled with a man of her own and he should have taken Tina home and away from Charlotte in this Fatal Attractionesque scene. Jerry never mentioned leaving his wife nor did he ever speak badly about her. Seems Charlotte cares for Jerry more than he cares for her and one could even say that her relationship with Jerry is obsessive and delusional. This movie takes lots of twists and turns, and I love these classic ship board romance films. I only wish Charlotte found the man she met and fell in love with on the cruise when she was young and fell in love with him on the 2nd cruise rather than getting involved with Jerry and giving up or sorts. I loved Charlottes line in the final scene; "Oh, Jerry, don't let's ask for the moon. We have the stars,"

Craig C (jp) wrote: arguably the "Casablanca" of film noir, with Robert Mitchum in his first starring role. Not a wasted word in a brilliant script with a staggering amount of twists for just 96 minutes. The cinematography just adds to genre-defining performances a midst trench coats and cigarette smoke. Essential.
