Mitch C (fr) wrote: This was a truly awful movie. Poor acting. Nonsensical story line. It is shocking what will get funded

Vicki G (br) wrote: This has the feel of a modern fable and is wonderful to look at. It meandered slightly, but the excellent animation in the middle more than makes up for that!

Will C (nl) wrote: An unusual film that sheds light on a culture rarely found on film.

Tor M (gb) wrote: A mixture of "Alice in Wonderland" (naturally), "Days of Heaven", "Gilbert Grape" and "MirrorMask" for me. Weird and very pretty. The imagery is stunning, the filming is so smooth and the effects are very nice. A treat for the eye and a bender for the mind. It's a trip, it's an experience. It's pretty nasty too, almost scary at times - at least spooky and gritty. The little girl does great and the rest of the cast is also doing their jobs well. Sadly this is about it. It got problems when it comes to interest me - I mostly just sit back and watch, without caring too much. I don't know why this is, but it surely is. Maybe it turns a bit much into the girl's games, I surely missed some more screentime for Jeff Bridges after a while. I tent to love both visual and bizarre films. "Tideland" is a bit of both worlds, but the result is not so great as it could have been. I got very mixed feelings about this film, so in one way I want to give it a solid 8, but I also want to give it a 4.7 out of 10 doll heads.

Doron S (kr) wrote: EDtv isn't a bad movie, but it's just takes what it has and does nothing special with it. It has a great cast and some really funny moments, but it takes what makes it a different romantic comedy and throws it out the window.

Richard D (it) wrote: Often identified as a Dutch take on the giallo genre. It's close, especially in the stylish scenes where the killer stalks victims while scuba diving the canals, but it's more of a straightforward police procedural. As such, it's entertaining, but never really transcends genre cliches. The North American VHS of this film was marred by terrible dubbing. European DVDs solve the issue by providing English subtitles.

Gary L (br) wrote: One of the "1001 films you must see before you die"... Ophuls reuses a device he's used before which is to track a pair of earrings where their value goes from worthless (the main character pawns them) to extremely valuable (her lover gives them to her later, and she realizes they are the same ones). Our following these earrings around the world and across the different contexts is done by a narrative device that uses the earrings as its center, and extremely fluid camera work by Ophuls. It is hard to imagine something so prosaic being interesting, but it's hard to stop watching this film from beginning to end, to figure out where the main character will end up.Vittorio De Sica, one of my favorite directors, played one of the main characters of this film. No wonder his own films are such showcases for great acting, even from minor actors; he really understands how acting works, watching this film.

Joe R (mx) wrote: It is so cheesy and corny, but somehow I don't hate it. It's a guilty pleasure movie for sure.

Karsh D (us) wrote: Some nice bloody fleshy gore in this futuristic tale. Bruce Campbell is his usual self, but there are too many and too long moments of nothing happening.
