The idea isn't a bad one but there is almost no story development, and the (deliberately) bad acting, lighting and camerawork create 90 minutes of unpleasant awkwardness without much to reward the viewer. The second film from the director of DOGTOOTH shows all the stereotypical flaws you associate with sophomore efforts.

Caesar B (kr) wrote: In the near future (2032) the world is run by a mega-corp called Avalon after 'the war'. In this future all hell breaks loose after one of Avalon's scientists is kidnapped and from there on we follow a detective trying to find her. The predictable storyline is ofcourse that this mega-corp is doing evil mega-corp things and must be stopped. It takes dark imagry to a whole new level since it's deep black with accents of white. On the one hand the animation is really impressive, for instance the amount of detail they manage to put forward with just two colours, but on the other hand it looks like a crappy childrens cartoon, especially the motion capture aspect feels really cheap. All in all I would have really preferred to see this movie in real time cinema with real people and actual colours. The characters are remarkably French, not just because they speak French, but they also emote French, look French, dress French, drive French cars and smoke French. I was kind of dreading this one, but in the end I'm glad I decided to watch it anyway.

Minya A (mx) wrote: What a terrible waste of almost two hours. The premise of the film is suffocated by the abundance of social, political, and philosophical commentary with no apparent point or conclusion. It is almost as if this film was made purely to bludgeon the audience with observations and opinions. What a shame, because the plot that should have driven Bob Dylan's bus would have actually made for a good story if it had been given a chance.
