Jenna I (br) wrote: Besides the fact that Beatty and Dunaway are in their prime looks-wise, this is the worst movie. Within the first 10 minutes I knew I was going to hate this but I stuck with it and boy do I hate it. Meandering, charmless, pointless, awful dialogue, stupid flat characters, wasted potential, boring camerawork, bad editing, like do I have to go on? This is the most overrated film.
Kenneth L (mx) wrote: A very enjoyable Sherlock movie, probably better than The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes, which was the original Basil Rathbone Sherlock movie. It's a straightforward mystery story that draws your suspicion a couple of different ways before you actually figure out what's going on. It's well made, and Basil Rathbone is appropriately clever and arrogant as Holmes. Nigel Bruce's Watson is much dumber and goofier than the Watson in the books, but he does a good job of playing him that way, and it's amusing. It's a good bt of fun, and it's really short.
Alex S (au) wrote: This is a very beautiful story; so idilic and peaceful. This is also one of the rare times that I wish movie was in colour and not black and white, because Shangri-La would look substantially vivid. Nevertheless, I did enjoy this movie.
JT K (nl) wrote: Incredibly flat, undeniably rote sci-fi flick. It's not as aggressively bad as say, Skyline (which was at least jaw-dropping in its ineptitude), but it's utterly lifeless; lacking anything resembling tension or even a discernible style. No one on- or off-screen seems to care; so why should we?
Jillian L (it) wrote: So, I took a break from Oscar nominees to watch this with some friends the other night, and it was totally worth it. Is this a parody movie? Absolutely. Is this smart as hell? Definitely. I don't love parody movies, because I think they're pointless. This is just way too smart not to ignore. It pokes fun of literally every single romantic comedy trope in existence. The incredible ensemble cast with Amy Poehler and Paul Rudd leading the charge is hilarious. There were two jokes that went a little too far/were a little too out there for me. But overall, any lover (or hater) of rom-coms will get a definite kick out of this.
