Sarah B (ru) wrote: I couldn't get past the first fifteen minutes.

Greg W (us) wrote: no 'office space' and not much of anything else either a seriously oppressive and downright unwatchable movie.

Calum B (ru) wrote: I cannot believe how badly this lovely film has been savaged on IMDb.Apart from spectacular vaudeville staging, Judi Dench plays her eccentric, mischievous widow to perfection and the excellent Bob Hoskins is cast surprisingly out of type as a reserved, rather complex, gentlemanly but iron-willed theatre manager. Their argumentative relationship is amusing without being overbearing, as the film is essentially a nicely balanced ensemble piece. Dench's character Laura Henderson turns out to have a very touching motivation for her desire to stage daring musicals for brave young men off to war. Will Young gives an astonishingly strong vocal performance throughout. His mannered vocal style is perfect, and he looks every inch the part on stage. His few brief moments of acting are nothing to blush over either. Kelly Reilly, the star of the naked girlie reviews, is quite simply mesmerising to watch, and ultimately her character is full of pathos. And if none of that were enough to engage you, you've got an interesting wartime plot, based on true events in the history of the Windmill Theatre, which in current circumstances feels highly topical and relevant for Londoners. 8/10

Ian R (es) wrote: Talk about a movie that really doesn't hold up. Parts of it are comedy gold, but then there's the other hour and fifteen minutes of boring crap that makes you want to go to jail yourself. Strange that this is so highly regarded, but I guess it's just one of those 'you had to be there' movies. Decent, but should have been 30 minutes shorter.

Marlene S (us) wrote: Jackie Gleason demonstrates his genius for both comedy and drama in this little known film made in the late 50"s. His portrayal of Maxwell Slaugher is unforgettable and Steve McQueen's rare comic turn as Eustus Clay is funny, optimistic, sensetive, and hints at the huge star he will became. He rarely did a comedic role, and he is evidence of the cliche that "dying is easy; comedy is hard. Tuesday Weld is luminous, pathetic, and strangely tragic. I highly recommend this obscure film directed by Norman Jewison.

HungYa L (ca) wrote: Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels is the original concept of Snatch and it is much more complex in terms of the storyline, too. It is as fast-paced, violent and certainly clever as almost any of Guy Ritchie's good works.

Dylan G (jp) wrote: Not nearly as great as the predecessor, it's boring at times, and the humor falls flat quite a lot! C
