Joseph F (us) wrote: The movie has visceral power, but fails to capture the complexity of the characters in the book. The set-up and payoff have less resonance than they should have.
Mike M (de) wrote: It's all about Dolly, her new job allowing her to rail against unworthy men, pompous professionals and attaching too much significance to one's possessions, all while driving around in a big pink Chevy to a soundtrack of her own empowering ballads. Fluff, really, but personalities far less agreeable have taken us on ego trips much less diverting, and the film's romantic variables now appear so unlikely (Dolly with James Woods? Dolly with Michael Madsen? Dolly with anyone other than her stylist?) that predictability is never an issue.
Pa K (fr) wrote: Truly off the off beat movie - not a good movie - but somehow I love this movie. I see it once a year and I have the original poster for it hanging in my TV room. Love Goldblum (who was clearly not used well, given good dialogue or direction in this), Lauper (who does a great job of acting for someone (at that time) relatively new to the game) and Falk who is well Peter Falk! Everyone loves him, great actor. But what a weird threesome they make. 0 chemistry anywhere.Still one of my favs just to watch Goldblum and Lauper play off each other I love the love story.

Mikey M (ag) wrote: Robinson plays away from home in more ways than one as the soft touch with a fantasy for a young mistress in this classic noir. The performances feel dated and on-the-nose, but the film is nicely plotted and it interestingly pushed the production code rules to breaking at the time. Bennett and Duryea fill out the two villains of the piece - who just about deserve each other in the down-right horrible stakes, and Robinson plays the pathetic but lovable 'Chris Cross' ("the boys tease me about it, but I don't mind") that is being duped by the unscrupulous pair. The film feels a little clunky transitionally at times, but you'll quickly find yourself rooting for Chris and a hope that he'll kill them both and get away with it....nuff said.

Gavin M (nl) wrote: Epic film making! John McTiernan is without a doubt one of the best action directors of all time! The director of "Die Hard" is in full command of this movie, as this is a movie that all action directors should take a look at and study at great length to see how a real action/sci-fi movie is made. Arnold Schwarzenegger will always be the best action actor of all time in my opinion. He is without a doubt the most successful action star to ever live as he truly does better action movies than Stallone in my opinion. And the rest of the cast in this movie including Carl Weathers who can best be remembered as Apollo Creed in "Rocky," is great to match up with against Schwarzenegger who has such confidence and unbelievable range that I'm shock he has never gotten past the action movies and been offered more serious roles. And Sonny Landham as Billy is awesome and intimidating and has that apache feel to him that really makes his character look like a fierce and heacy warrior. Bill Duke as Mac is nothing but fierce intensity in the movie, as he really brings out the true nature of soldier and the conflicts a soldier faces on a daily basis fighting the enmy. Jesse Ventura as Blane is just awesome to have in this movie, as no one, but Arnold of course, can manage and handle a mini gun the way Ventura does in this movie, and I'm not gonna lie, he makes it look a hell of a lot of fun! We also can't forget Richard Chaves as Poncho who is really good in this too and Stephen Hawkins as Hawkins makes geek soldiers look great! The whole movie works because of these major facts: Great casting, awesome music for the movie, and nothing but bulk ass guys in their prime and looks great fighting in the jungle. It gives you that feel that this is what Special Forces is all about. But the real star of this movie that we cannot forget is Kevin Peter Hall who plays the Predator, because without him and his 7'2 status...their would be no movie.
