Ryan J (jp) wrote: Gosling plays Dan Dunne, a high school history teacher and the schools female basketball coach, he is also a drug addict and he is able to keep these two sides of his life separate from each other, that is until after a game he is found on the end of a crack pipe in the school locker room by one of his students, a troubled girl with no father figure in her life, an overworked mother and an older brother in jail. A friendship blossoms amongst the chaos. Drey is slowly getting pulled towards her older brother lifestyle in dealing drugs for the local pusher who tries to take her under his wing. A good cast in this indie drama helps, it's definitely not a feel good film. Dan is a dick who is on a downward spiral, he tries hard and teaching is his passion but his habit comes calling often and it's hard to ignore it.

James C (de) wrote: Oddly enough RT has these movies rated differently than i do. Although we are close on the original the critics and audience seemed to hate this remake which is kind of baffling to me. While i am generally a bigger fan of older horror (mainly 70's & 80's horror) there are some moments in modern day horror that i like and think are well done with this being one of them. While i admit the story is actually rushed more than the original it wastes no time getting into the tension and killing right off that bat. The movie features a couple of familiar names in Michelle Trachtenberg (Buffy the Vampire Slayer TV series) and Mary Elizabeth Winstead (10 Cloverfield Lane) as a couple of the girls who are being stalked by a killer....or killers. Unlike the original the remake here goes into further detail with the backstory as to why things are happening like they are. The gore is well balanced, not over the top and the body count is good. The ending is abrupt but also symbolic of the movie itself. Can it be a bit corny at times? Yea, but arent all horror movies corny to a degree? Either way, i connected more with this remake than the original and felt it still had more to offer in terms of storyline and overall vibe. And if i had to be honest, the girls in this flick actually look more like sorority girls than the women they used in the original. Sorry, Margaret Kidder just didnt pass it for me to be a sorority girl. lol

Jason M (es) wrote: a freudian tale of love and obsession. the constant narration in this film is annoying and superfluous, seemingly only there to serve as an aggrandizement of the otherwise tepid scenes. the story grows in strength as it continues though, with michael redgrave giving a truly chilling portrayal of mark. the whole film feels a little melodramatic, but it has some merits. points for the score and cinematography

Samurai A (es) wrote: This film can very well be the most challenging film to understand ever produced! Its one hundred and eighty minutes of pure Symbolism,Meaning and confusion.Even if you are a hardcore Lynch fan (like me) you will still struggle to find the meaning of this film. But ofcourse that is not the downside of the movie, that is what makes it a masterpiece!.The effort David Lynch must have gone through to bring such a film to life will forever puzzle me.After multiple viewings and some research I now understand the basic concept behind it but not fully, only Lynch will understand its meaning fully.Rest assured this film is Lynch's ultimate challenge for his fans and seeing it might disturb, shock, glorify, entertain or even mystify his viewers.
